RMAF 2013 Show Report (Rocky Mountain Audio
Fest)
Saturday's Coverage
Since i stopped reporting on rooms at #477 on Friday, the guys @
Antelope Audio were bummed. Naturally said first thing Saturday morning i'd be at their room.
My word is my bond. Alas, the room was locked and did knock on the door too. So here
is my obligatory watch shot (this is my daily beater nowadays) and proof i was at their room
Saturday morning. Sorry to have missed your room Antelope Audio, yet did try. Look forward to seeing them at the next event
as they have some really great gear. Hopefully will have time on Sunday to go back to their room, yet my schedule is beyond booked
solid as was working yesterday from 5am to 1am.
Sneak Peek! Sony's new PCM-D100 super-secret portable DSD recording
unit will officially be launched in a week, yet here it is at RMAF! So here we have a sneak peek
world's first live photo a full week before the official announcement at NYC AES event.
JH Audio Roxanne $1599 is the world's first triple proprietary
‘soundrIVe' quad driver earpiece. It has variable bass output and a three-way crossover network. In fact the JH Audio Roxanne is so unique that they designed special fur-pin cables with twist lock mechanism to ensure top quality performance from all the drivers and crossover network. And yes my friends all this comes at a price. And yes (again), a set is being custom made to my ears and will arrive for review in a few weeks. In fact it was #1 on my list of products to review from the show. Oh, and before I forget, they use real carbon fiber to make it and it comes in a matching carbon fiber case! Oh baby,
yeah!!!
Which headphone set would you choose?
iFi Audio had a stack of their great products here at
CanJam. New here @ RMAF 2013 is their iDSD 24/192 and DSD128/DXD unit that
works with iDevices and has 80mW of output for headphone use. They also had
the iCan battery powered headphone amplifier with 3D HolographicSound system,
XBass and 150mW output. Lastly is their new Mercury USB cable for transmitting
USB audio and power to keep the critical digital audio signal pure.
Astell&Kern AK100 with their Blue Note Award for the
AK120. The AK120 is perhaps the very best PMP on the market today.
YG Acoustic had their Sonya 1.3 speakers
($72,800) and wiring was the excellent Kubala Sosna.
In the Stillpoints and Dynamic Design room had the
ModWright prototype tubed phonostage. The new flagship LS36.5 DM
preamplifier is mated to ModWright's KWA150 stereo amp and for source is a
modded Oppo BDP-105.
Astell&Kern had their prototype speakers called the Castor. It is a two-way with
5" Accuton and 1" Accuton Diamond tweeter. The enclosure looked really amazing!
