Timex Marlin Automatic 40mm Leather Strap
Timepiece
Here's proof that luxurious, and classic, styling does not need to cost a fortune for an automatic wind mechanical timepiece. Timex's Marlin Automatic 40mm leather strap watch ($249, TW2T22800Z) won't be the most accurate, or finely decorated movement watch, yet it is a great entry-level timepiece from a longstanding brand.
Timex's iconic 1960s Marlin case gets an aesthetic refresh for 2020. Ticking inside is a tried and true 21 jewel automatic movement, creating a contemporary timepiece that honors the company's watchmaking history. Powered by your motion as you wear the watch, the movement can store a maximum of 40 hours of energy. If motionless longer than 40 hours you can, of course, wind the watch using the crown until you feel resistance.
True to Timex's original Marlin design, the stainless steel gold-tone case and black dial are complemented by a classic black leather strap, featuring leather from the S.B. Foot Tanning Company. The date window is easy to see and can be set by the crown. At this price don't expect a fine sapphire crystal either, as it is domed acrylic. I've found that using Novus plastic polishing formulations helps to remove the inevitable scratches during wear. The Time Marlin is also available in stainless steel silver case with black or silver dial, plus and combinations to suit your needs.
PS: If you're looking to practice your skills at taking apart and reassembling a mechanical timepiece, this Timex also makes a good first effort without the high cost. And as the time accuracy is not guaranteed, you could also easily self-regulate it too!
As always, in the end what really matters is that you...
