Summer Music Festivals, TAVES 2015 And DAP Shopping Guide

Editorial By Suave Kajko

Canada HiFi August / September 2015  The summer is in full swing and I have certainly been doing my best to enjoy it to the fullest. From long dog walks to socializing with family and friends on patios around the city, to fiddling with the classic car in my garage - I've already spent plenty of time outdoors. I've also managed to catch lots of live music this summer, much of it outdoors as well, which included great festivals like NXNE, Edgefest and the Way Home festival. I don't know if it's just me but it seems like Toronto has more live music to offer this summer than ever before. It appears that we've become quite a musical city!

Of course my life isn't all just fun and games. With the TAVES Consumer Electronics Show just under three months away (Oct. 30 to Nov. 1), I'm spending a tremendous amount of time coordinating the various components that promise to make this year's show the most diverse and spectacular show to date. At its core TAVES will continue to offer thrilling HiFi and home theatre demos but this fall the show will be expanded to also showcase two pavilions packed with technology and innovation. Some of the product categories you'll be able to explore in these new pavilions include virtual reality, video gaming,3D printing, wearables, smart devices and digital imaging. If you're an AV enthusiast that's also curious about technology in general, you're going to have an absolute blast at this year's TAVES. So please, put TAVES in your calendar this Oct. 30 - Nov. 1 and join us at the show!

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the wonderful features and reviews inside this issue of CANADA HiFi. This issue offers our first and very comprehensive Digital Music Player Shopping Guide which will teach you everything you should know in order to select the perfect player for your home. It's somewhat of a convoluted product category but Frank Labonte does an excellent job of sorting all of the information, which makes it easier to understand. Also in this issue, Douglas Brown continues his exploration of the "Origins of Harder Rock", providing amazing insight about some of the greatest influencers of modern rock. The third feature in this issue, written by yours truly, takes a close look at what performance gains you can achieve by upgrading the power fed to your components, as well as the cables that connect them (you'll find it on page 20).

Hope you enjoy the read - happy summer!
