AURALiC ALTAIR, MERAK, And VEGA Review
Audiophiles worldwide are familiar with AURALiC and their ALTAIR ($1899) and MERAK monoblock amplifier ($2499). Their North American sales manager, Summer, was at T.H.E. Show Newport 2016 giving me the details. In fact the AURALiC ALTAIR earned our award during AXPONA 2016 (as seen here) and so i'm going to focus on the MERAK monoblock amps.
MERAK is a powerful 200W @ 8 Ohms (400W @ 4 Ohms) monoblock amplifier that adheres to high-end audio qualities. This hybrid analog amplifier uses their ORFEO Class A output module, input isolation transformer, linear power supply and several latest technologies. With an efficiency of 90%, a linear power supply and a 56,000uF capacitors array, there is an abundance of energy storage (120 Joule) to deliver 16 Amperes of peak current.
AURALiC's MERAK has an output stage powered by Hypex UcD technology. AURALiC further modified and optimized the Hypex design according to mathematician models between subjective auditory sense and objective testing data. By suppressing high order distortion components (mostly from 4th to 7th), "this lead to a significant improvement in listening experience" says the company.
Ultra-low total harmonic distortion ensures the signal's purity shines through. Inputs include both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA, so it will easily work within any high-end audio system. With a high damping factor of >800, it has a vice-like grip on delivering power to your loudspeakers. Whichever AURALiC product you choose, they take great care to ensure both high sound quality and high reliability.
