T.H.E. Show Newport
Beach 2015 Report Jan Mancuso of Reference Recordings is here at T.H.E. Show 2015 with their new Doug McCloud double LP Exactly Like This and Copland's Fanfare For The Common Man and Third Symphony ($50 and $35 for title respectively). Copland is conducted by Eiji Oue with the Minnesota Orchestra. The LPs are pressed by Quality Record Pressings in Salina, Kansas. For many years, Reference recordings has been searching the world over for the best possible vinyl mastering, plating and pressing facilities so they could re-enter the LP market. We now have a production chain that will allow us to produce LPs to meet our high standards and satisfy our demanding customers, who have been waiting for these LPs for a long time! Disc mastering is done at half-speed to insure maximum accuracy. The lathe system has custom electronics by audio legend Nelson Pass of Pas Labs (previous Threshold) fame. The simple signal path contains no compression, equalization or unnecessary circuitry. Once the company achieved successful results in disc mastering, then comes the very difficult task of choosing the best plating and pressing facility to manufacture their discs. Fortunately, the new Quality Record Pressings (QRP) plant in Salina, Kansas, operated by Chad Kassem and his crack team of experts employ many unique techniques. Reference Recordings feels that 200-gram deluxe vinyl pressings from QRP are truly exceptional.
Just released is their Copland LP that has been half-speed mastered by Paul Stubblebine on 200 gram vinyl in deluxe gatefold jacket. Whilst it was originally released on compact disc to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the birth of America's favorite composer, it is now available on LP for the first time! The Minnesota Orchestra and conductor Eiji Oue do a marvelous job with these Copland masterpieces. Fanfare for the Common Man and the magnificent Third Symphony were recorded by "Prof." Johnson. Reference Recordings' new Doug MacLeod Exactly Like This two LP set is also half-speed mastered by Paul Stubblebine on 200 gram vinyl in deluxe gatefold jacket. Doug's unique and powerful guitar playing is "rich and soulful voice, singing original songs based on his own life and experiences". In case you missed it, below is our video showing you the step-by-step process Quality Record Pressings manufactures their vinyl LPs.
