  The Salon Audio Montréal / Audio Fest 2022 celebrated their impressive 33rd edition of its popular annual meeting from March 25th through 27th at the Bonaventure Hotel in Montreal. Located in the heart of the City of Montreal, the recently renovated hotel was once again be transformed into a multitude of listening rooms to accommodate some 6000 music lovers and nearly 100 exhibitors, representing more than 300 luxury brands of products from the world of high-fidelity audio. Visitors heard, saw, and touched over 300 brands of audio products all under one roof.

It was the biggest get-together of audio/video industry manufacturers, distributors, and retailers in Canada. Thousands of attendees came to meet over a hundred exhibitors, all eager to share their passion for music by demonstrating some of the world's best sound systems from $1000 to $1,000,000.

Those who have followed my Montreal show reports over the past 2.3 decades know that they typically involve a trying adventure, sometimes even life-threatening. No such event occurred this year, thanks to my dear wife who prepared all my Covid vaccination and last-minute Covid test documentation and filed it into my ArriveCAN account. For that, she deserves a Blue Note Award, as I breezed across the border after camping out in my Shooting Brake on Friday night. As the saying goes, behind every incompetent man, stands a woman who knows how to get things done. Thank you, dear.

In room 1231 there was a long table with headphone stations manned by two knowledgeable hosts who seemed to be doing an excellent job of marketing their wares to the public. As a member of the Press, I hesitate to interrupt such potential sales and since headphones are not my specialty, I moved on. But this was a Must Visit room for serious headphone shoppers. The room was sponsored by The Sound Organization-Canada, Audio Group, and Art & Son.

Things were a little weird where I left off in Part 2, and they continued to be just as weird across the hall from the primitive diving helmet. I was feeling like Mr. Jones in Dylan's "Ballad of a Thin Man" wondering if this was deconstruction art. The theme continued as I entered the darkened Outremont 2 room and found myself listening to what looked like might be PureAudioProject Trio speakers on steroids. The room was deathly silent aside from the music as people listened with an intense sense of religiosity. That alone told me I was in one of the Best Rooms Of Montreal 2022 at the show. I sat down to verify that truth.

Continuing my way around the block of Montreal conference rooms Totem Acoustic, long a major supporter of the Montreal show, had a dramatic presentation with a minimalist approach. Their wireless active Kin floorstanding speakers were positioned in front of a large graphic wall with only power cords taped to the floor behind them. On a stand to the right was a tabled of some sort where people could select music to be transmitted wirelessly to the self-powered speakers. Color this cool, and affordable — a perfect lifestyle invitation for folks to get involved with higher quality music playback.

Saturday night there was a gala dinner for the industry instead of the usual informal cocktail gathering and presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award. Sarah Tremblay, the Executive Producer of the show was kind enough to locate some photos taken by Anik Lemieux to fill in my gap in this coverage. (Thank you, Anik, and Sarah.) Along with dinner was the award presentation, and of course, a little entertainment. First, we see Michele Plante, who has been one of the organizers with his wife, Sarah Tremblay for many years now. Michele was assisted with an English translation (very loose, I'm told) by Rainbow, the Drag Queen. I hear that Michele was not the only one laughing.

Anne and Friends
Set to perform live during the Salon Audio Montréal / Audio Fest 2022 is Anne Bisson & Friends. Her music is said to be pure happiness for us all! Her performance is included with the show's entry fee and will be held on Friday, March 25 starting at 6:30pm. Anne Bisson is featured as vocalist / pianist, and is joined by David Desrosiers (bass, guitar, and vocals), Caroline St-Louis (vocals and keyboard), Stephan Ritch (guitar and vocals), plus Samuel Jacques (bass and piano). A fun musical event will be had by all Montreal show attendees.

For the fourth year, Salon Audio Montréal / Audio Fest allows you to find the vinyl that you have been dreaming about! Sellers are waiting for you with their crates filled with music treasures.

PMA Challenge "Tune ta Room"
A grand premiere, where audiophiles are invited to compete against the audio industry professionals. It's your chance to give us an earful! In collaboration with PMA magazine, the Montreal Audio Show will provide three teams of audiophiles with a free demonstration room and all the components of a high-end sound system to demonstrate your know-how. The challenge is to optimize the performance of the system and the room. Each day, a different team will host the room and optimize it to the best of their knowledge. Each team will be judged by the public and a panel of audio industry members.

Audiofilles
The Audiofilles are back for the third year, this group of women share the same passion for music and have discovered a new passion for the audio equipment that they want to share with you. Come to listen to their large music selection on their favorite audio system. They have a lot of surprises for you every day, from live performances to maybe a drink, from Classical music to Heavy Metal with everything in between. Everyone is welcome to chill with the girls!
