Mind-Blowing Innovations At AXPONA 2025 – The Ultimate Audio
Revolution
The audiophile-faithful descended once again on Schaumburg, April 11th through 13th, for AXPONA 2025 high-end audio show (report), which is North America's largest gathering of audiophile and luxury premium audio designers, manufacturers, and enthusiasts of all levels and backgrounds. AXPONA 2025's immersive music event is now officially in the books as the largest to date, with Event Director, Liz Smith, wanting Enjoy the Music.com to share with you that just over 10,000 attendees enjoying 700 international brands / designers, retailers, and exhibitors. With 213 dedicated listening rooms distributed over 12 floors of the Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center, this year's AXPONA provided ample opportunity to experience and celebrate some of the finest home audio designs in the world.
Though the above numbers for this 14th annual AXPONA are impressive, I am continually inspired by the welcoming, tight-knit community that it represents. Everyone has a place at the table, and everyone comes away with a broader awareness and appreciation for the high art of presenting recorded music (and perhaps a few lighter wallets, too!). Liz stated to Enjoy the Music.com, "The audience growth we experienced at AXPONA 2025 was driven by thousands of first-time visitors to the show, many traveling great distances to attend. We recognize the importance of building awareness of this hobby and industry to music lovers of all ages and backgrounds, so this year we worked on multiple programs to support this mission." As the largest gathering of high-end audio enthusiasts in North America, AXPONA indeed serves as a key community builder for the industry, especially in the role of education.
With an expanded palette of thirteen seminars and fourteen Masterclasses / Workshops conveniently scheduled throughout the weekend, this year's AXPONA was postured as a unique and comprehensive resource for consumer awareness and inspiration. Among new experiences this year was the Car Audio Showcase, co-sponsored by the International Auto Sound Challenge Association (IASCA), located at the east end of the convention center. This event exhibited the best in high-fidelity car audio systems, including a first-hand demonstration of a Sound Quality (SQ) competition.
The Friday and Saturday night AXPONA 2025 audiophile show concerts welcomed the Chicago-based Kyle Asche Organ Quartet and internationally renowned jazz artist, Patricia Barber, to packed and energetic crowds in the Schaumburg East ballroom. The tradition of informal evening gatherings in select listening rooms throughout also added to the festivity and charming embrace of exceptional listening among new and old friends. Indeed, and by all accounts, AXPONA high-end audio show has become much more than a trade show. Rather, it is a marvelous gathering of diverse and engaged learners who are motivated by their collective passion for the art of recorded music, always eager to share, and, above all, always eager to listen!
As a professional musician & university professor, 99% of my weekends are spoken for, thus the luxury of traveling to an audio conference for even a day is very difficult. Consequently, I've thus far been unable to jet off to Munich, and rarely to Capital Audiofest, Florida International Audio Expo, Southwest Audio Fest, or Pacific Audiofest due to rehearsal / performance commitments.
However, as a consequence of proximity and blessings from the calendar gods, I've thankfully been able to carve out the annual weekend road trip to Chicago. A 6.5 hour drive from our home in the cornfields of Missouri and I'm re-energized and inspired by friends and audio artisans the world over.
The caveat to my visit this year was that I only had two days to peruse (Fri-Sat), as it was necessary to travel back early Sunday for an evening rehearsal. With twelve floors of 200+ listening rooms, the Ear Gear Experience, Expo Hall, seminars, and concerts, a personal master schedule was essential to navigate the weekend (although through visiting / meeting friends, impromptu gatherings, etc., I ended up failing miserably at this).
Needless to say, I did not have the opportunity to enjoy what I'm certain were many fine rooms, for which I extend my apologies. In any case, here are those who won over my ears at this year's AXPONA in both sound and design. I also note those outstanding rooms that I feel deserve special recognition as a Best Of AXPONA 2025 Blue Note Award (coming online tomorrow, May 6th).
