Classic Records Press Conference
Proud Michael Hobson of Classic Records
with wife Gillian and newborn son Lucas
New from Classic Records is Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young
Déjà vu. A title that has been pursued for well over 3.5 years due to various issues including, not least of which, reproducing the leatherette cover pattern. Gold foiling on the front cover is also included. The original copies of the record were carefully considered with the production master tapes. These tapes were not in the hands of either the record label or the musicians. Bernie Grundman did the mastering and naturally these are presses on their very high-end vinyl.
In 2004 Classic Records, now in their 11th year, has some big plans including the new
releases by Dido, Sarah
McLaughlin, Norah Jones, and others that are even more paramount (yet can not be disclosed at this time). On another note, Michael Hobson promoted their online retailing website TheMusic.com. Another side business is official bootlegs of various concerts including The Who, Peter Gabriel, Duran Duran, and
more.
Another part of TheMusic.com is called the Groove Shop, an expanded store that offers collectable vinyl, both new and used, to
a large audience. Soon they will be opening the old RCA record housing building just off Santa Monica Boulevard in California to operate a brick and mortar store.
Lastly, they will be opening a place called the Gear Shop that will, obviously,
sell equipment. The point here is to offer Los Angeles residence the chance to experience retail audio at its finest. Michael feels that, correctly, there is no substitute in actually hearing gear before final purchase. Equipment within the Gear Shop will be highly selective -- not just another Best Buy variant. In fact the Gear Shop now exclusively distributes Kuzma turntables within the USA. Also, they are now the official distributor of the Euro Audio Team (EAT) line of vacuum tubes.
