Von
Schweikert's new VR-100 XS took many years to bring into final production ($140,000). This four-piece speaker system features two main towers and two outboard subwoofer modules. In addition to their holographic sound projection, the Von Schweikert VS-100XS includes built-in bass room correction to eliminate undesirable room nodes. In fact the overall design aspects of this new speaker system have six patents pending! There are 20 drivers, all employing metal alloy construction with ceramic dampening. The drivers are time and phase aligned, whilst the cardioid/omni radiation patters ensures ‘surround capability’. The sound was breath-taking! If you are here at T.H.E. Show you must give them a proper listen.
Always have loved the Stillpoints tweaks and here at T.H.E. Show Newport Beach 2014 they were showcasing their special Panels. The Stillponts panels are claimed to be self-attenuating so that when the music is louder they 'work' more, and less at lower volumes. They are also very home décor friendly since you can have them print any image/photo on the panel.
GIK Acoustics had their Q7D diffuser and Scopus 2 bass trap ($349 and $249 respectively). Of course virtually every room needs some type of room acoustic devices and here we have common sense solutions. This is a true family business and their pricing is very reasonable too.
Channel D is here at T.H.E. Show 2014 with their first public showing of the Pure Music 2 software for the Mac ($299).
Also new is their Pure Vinyl 4 includes more than three dozen significant new features, user interface and performance enhancements. Pure Vinyl features 64 bit digital RIAA compensation for overall improvement over conventional analog RIAA LP reproduction, when used with a high quality analog to digital (ADC) and digital to analog converter (DAC). Sampling at 192kHz/24-bit results in a signal reproduction chain that is said to be demonstrably indistinguishable from a pure analog playback system.
Woo Audio's awesome looking, and sounding, WA234 Mono ($16,000) can use 2A3, 300B and Type 45 tubes. They were using the incredible
Abyss headphones that sound intoxicatingly musical ($5500).
Much more to come in tomorrow's coverage so see
you here tomorrow! As always, enjoy the music.
