Years ago my favorite watch magazine came
out with a special Patek Philippe issue. Mechanical timepiece enthusiasts
recognize Patek Philippe as one of, if not the, worlds most
accomplished manufactures in their field. For the past few years i have
been hoping to do the same basic idea, having a complete issue highlighting a
single manufacturer within high-end audio. The February 2006 Superior
Audio is the first of what we hope to be an ongoing series, with different
manufacturers being highlighted. While this will not be a monthly item, my
hopes are to have three such issues each year to celebrate manufacturers
with incredible accomplishments and have dedicated themselves to produce
truly outstanding products. And first up is a company that needs no
introduction to analog enthusiasts. We present to you our special Clearaudio
edition!
Peter Suchy at the Frankfurt 2001 Show
Most audiophiles do not realize Clearaudio was started, as are
many high-end audio companies, in the inventor's basement (or garage).
Peter Suchy, head designed and owner of Clearaudio, worked for countless
hours in hopes that his cartridges would bring about more musical
pleasures. Because Peter is incredibly smart, and aided his precision
German upbringing, he meticulously labored away at inventing something better
than he found available within the marketplace. His approach to phono cartridges
is very unique, as they do not employ normal suspension. We cover the many
aspects of this construction within the Clearaudio
Reference review.
Over the years Clearaudio has been highly praised by reviewers and
music enthusiasts worldwide. In fact, Clearaudio has garnished many awards
from magazines around the world! The company has expanded from the basement to
now filling an impressive dedicated two story facility. i have seen the
original basement where the business began, have toured the new facility, and must say it brings
me joy in
knowing that one man's dream can bring joy to tens of thousands of others
while providing a thriving business to support his exceptional family.
The company has expanded over the years and now offers cartridges,
phonostages, tonearms, turntables, and various analog tweak products. Each
one is a testament to Peter Suchy's dream.
Son of Peter, Rober Suchy With Clearaudio's New Outer
Limit
Peter's son, Robert, continues the work his father began and now oversees Clearaudio.
Rest assured Peter still comes to the office from time to time and makes
sure his hard work and dreams are continued for generations to come. It is always interesting how in life things can go
'full circle,' as i began this article mentioning my mechanical watch
hobby. It is interesting to note that Robert Suchy is also a watch
enthusiast! Perhaps it is on that note that we present to you our very first
manufacturer highlight issue of Superior Audio. Of course in the end what really
matters is that you...
Enjoy the Music
