Áudio e Vídeo Hi-Fi Show 2003

Áudio & Vídeo Hi-Fi Sao Paulo Brazil Audiophile Show 2003

Sunday Page 3

Audiopax, as first seen worldwide years ago within our show report, had their APX 01 pre-amplifier ($1,500 USD), Eighty Eight monoblock amplifier ($9,997 USD), and their new Reference 100 three-way loudspeakers ($8,900 USD). Heralding this launch, the Reference 100 sports a 1-inch silk soft dome tweeter, 8-inch custom m de by Audiopax midrange, and 10-inch woofer. Frequency response is from 30Hz to 22kHz with a sensitivity is 92dB/W/m at a true 8 Ohm load. Cabling within this system was by Ecosse and this room won "Best Sound At The Show" by the voting attendees.

Keeping the vinyl spinning is SME's Model 10 turntable with Series V tonearm. Sumiko's Celebration cartridge graciously transversed the musical highs n' lows.

Brazilian loudspeaker manufacturer Lando has their new Metallic line that includes the Ergo 10 subwoofer ($1,275 BRL) with its 10-inch driver. A 120-watt amplifier is also included at this amazingly low price point. Frequency response is from 30Hz to 130Hz and the entire unit weights in at 19 kg. The small monitor loudspeaker is from Lando's Classic line. The 503 ($1,350 BRL) use a 150mm midrange/woofer and 19mm silk soft dome tweeter.

The ever-popular Sennheiser HD-600 made their appearance here at the Áudio e Vídeo Hi-Fi show. See our review of these units by clicking here.

Brazilian company Tone Audio had their Virtuoso TVC transformer based pre-amplifier with 24 taps ($2,200). Unlike normal trace or resistor type passive pre-amplifiers, this is a transformer design. nyNoise personality and guru Dave Slegal does the nickel core autoformer, while those who desire amorphous core transformers (done in the Netherlands) are also available. It is said that the nickel sounds soft and smooth, yet very transparent, while the amorphous is quicker and extremely detailed. It is kike the difference between an MC and MM cartridge.

While this is really a kit from US manufacture North Acoustics, yet the cabinets are constructed here in Brazil. The drivers are specially designed for 0.5dB matching.

Alas, it is still busy in the Pacific room...

And with this we bid you a fond farewell from São Paulo, Brazil.
