Reviewer's Bio
Steven R. Rochlin
I toil away each day fine-tuning the Enjoy the Music.com website while enjoying music and love code work for various entities. Most of you internet old-timers know me, though for those of you who are not familiar with my accomplishments.... Became a music lover at the age of five when my dad brought me to a live performance of 1812 (with live blasting caps substituting for cannons).
Began my love for playing music at a very young age and was classically trained in snare drum, bells, tympani, xylophone, assorted percussion, and later in middle school / high school a 'classic jazz' drum kit.
My first "day job" was with the longstanding and well-respected electronics company Heathkit, where my duties were diverse. Helping build kits and maintaining their BBS system (sysop) were among my duties. I began the Enjoy the Music.com website in 1995 after accomplishing well over thirteen years of experience in electronics retail. In 1995, Enjoy the Music.com was launched in hopes of being of service to music lovers globally. During the 1996 WCES, I was a panel member of the very first CES workshop dealing with internet issues. Have also been a supporter of the Music Cares Foundation, which assists musicians in need of assistance due to chemical addictions, financial, or medical needs. All types of music are enjoyable to my ears as a classically trained musician. This includes various forms of jazz, classical, progressive, and rock music.
In 2007 decided to race a Van Diemen (1999 chassis) Formula 2000 open-wheel winged car. During my first year, 2007, earned second place in SCCA's Driving Championship. In 2008 successfully earned the SCCA Driver's Champion for Formula 2000 / Formula Continental and has not raced since achieving this goal.
A Bit More Info... From day one to today, Steven R. Rochlin has been very active in helping guide the many independent journalists to the goals Enjoy the Music.com continues to desire to achieve as the site's Creative Director. His writings and/or photos have appeared, in one form or another, in the following magazines:
Steven R. Rochlin is also, or at one time was, a Member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), Consumer Electronics Association's Citizen Action Network (CEA CAN), is a member of the Boston Audio Society (BAS), San Francisco Audiophile Society, Los Angeles Audiophile Society, has a Master's Degree from of the Academy Advancing High-Performance Audio & Video (AAHPAV), plus an International Auto Sound Challenge Association (IASCA) certified judge. He was also a Member of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (Grammy Award organization). His work has been recognized by many authorities within the industry including the President of the Consumer Technology Association (was CEA) and was a member to help guide CEA's high-end audio division. Since one of my loves is the art of mechanical timepieces, including floorstanding (Grandfather / tall clocks), desktop clocks, wall clocks, pocket watches, and wrist-based mechanical timepiekeepers, have been a Member / Circle of Friends of the prestigious AHCI (Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants) in Europe plus a member of the USA's NAWCC (National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors) and a supporter of the international HOROPEDIA Foundation. In 2019 decided to rebirth my joy / love of playing percussion and drums. This is a continuation of a dream back in the 1980s, in Miami, when the studio and a bit of touring duties were part of my life. So decided upon quite a bit of percussion instruments plus a custom-built Sonor SQ2 drum kit. As we know, drummers are a type of 'organic timekeeper'. Side projects by Steven R. Rochlin over the decades include being a recording engineer / videographer / live streamer. Released a reference-quality percussion / drum album, earning the Driver's Championship in Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Formula Continental / 2000 series, medium format camera, mechanical watch enthusiast... and, you know, maintain networks and / also write computer code.... from time to time.
My motto: What really matters is that you enjoy the music. |
