Distance 8 Miles to Empty

CD Label: Distance Music

When you go the distance, you can reach your goal before your gas gauge reads 8 Miles to Empty. This band, aptly named Distance, has a new album that certainly indicates much more than what the title of the CD suggests. They have plenty of fuel in their tank and they are poised to take the world by storm in the arena of hard rock.

Taking their roots from the blazing Seattle grunge scene jump started by bands like Nirvana in the '90s, Distance plows their way through 13 tracks of high energy rockin' metal with hooks galore and lyrics that snap and bite. It awakens you and leaves your mundane daily routine behind for a while. "Who We Are" is reflective of a band that has a penchant for well thought out and poignant lyrics. The first verse grabs you and pulls you in right out of the gate -- "You look at life with big bright eyes/innocent as when the cries supplied your breath/seemingly seeing everything for the first time/seeing positives and overlooking death." These are definitely not throwaway lyrics without meaning. All their music comes barreling down the tracks full bore, which makes all the words that much more meaningful.

Although they are compared to bands such as Creed and Finger Eleven, I heard Godsmack more than once listening to this fiery band. Kevin Hedrick has a great set of pipes and Paul Cohen matches him with big powerful fat chords, the kind that rip any semblance of serenity you are feeling to complete shreds. It comes across that way to get your attention, and it works. The rhythm section of Mark Delzer (drums) and Rick Jordan (bass) build a foundation that allows for a literal cascade of sound to come down upon you. It is all so wonderful, loud, brash, and most of all-high energy!

This band is major league, ready for a worldwide listening audience. Come join the fray!
