Chairside Tables

A premium listening chair usually demands a premium chairside table to place the remote controls, LP jackets, CD jewel cases, and a drink to keep you hydrated through those interminable listening sessions. The key here is to think "special." After all, "special" is much of what high-end audio is all about.

This unique table comes not from High Point, but from the workshop of a local artisan. Metal artist John Hendry creates one of a kind color patterns by heating and tempering the metal. Custom orders can be produced to meet your specific needs. John also makes custom wall shelves that will be mentioned later in this column.

From Butler Specialty Co. comes this traditional chairside table with stamped and acid etched brass metal inlays that give this import an Old World look.

For those wishing to bring a nature theme indoors, I spotted this slice of tree trunk that should offer you and your guests many delightful moments counting the rings. For the chairside table, they offer a selection of solid wood pedestals. Note that they have arrested the natural splitting of the wood with large metal sutures in some instances. Obviously, no two pieces are alike. Unfortunately, I missed the name of this manufacturer. I'll try and catch them again at the spring show in March.

2-Day Designs is one of my favorite small manufacturers who specializes in building casual furniture from recycled wine barrels and old factory floorboards. If you are prone to spilling your wine, you can do these tables no harm. Their website offers a wide variety of unusual pieces for different rooms of your home.
