Gain   An objective measure of voltage amplification.

 

GHz   Gigahertz. 1,000,000,000 cycles per second

 

GIF (Graphic Interchange Format)     A format for storing digital images that is commonly used for bullets, icons, and other graphics on the Internet. The GIF format is limited to 256 colors, so it's not as commonly used as the JPEG format for storing digital photos. A single GIF file can combine several frames together for basic animated motion.

Grid  The perforated element in a triode tube (valve). The addition of the grid to the diode thermionic valve meant that in the triode, the first building block to the invention of an electronic amplifier had been discovered. 

 

Ground Loop: The generation of undesirable current flow within a ground conductor, owing to the circulation currents which originate from a second source of voltage.
