Part 7: The Lower Level, Outremont, And St. Laurent Rooms
S6 Anthem et Paradigm presentés par Sonxplus
On the floor by the partition were three subwoofers that differed from the conventional cube. Note the bowed sides on the one on the right. The thin one, in particular, offered a solution for application in tight quarters.
Past the scrim dividing the room was a home theater presentation, complete with speakers on the 'ceiling' and two different series of floorstanding speakers up front. Home theater is really where the Anthem / Paradigm combination makes sense. The top level of Paradigm speakers, however, is worthy of even finer electronics if you're thinking of a system primarily for music.
I noticed that both pairs of speakers were brought out a sufficient distance from the front wall to optimize the sound presentation. The TV screen was also brought forward to provide a larger image for the seating, which was backed off to keep the viewers at the optimum distance from the speakers. The surround speakers were on stands at the sides of the 'audience' at ear level. The long Quadraspire rack had plenty of cubbies for the components and was sufficiently wide for the screen. Again, the DR Acoustics Polynice power management and ground systems are important for video as well as audio quality. Most of us don't have this kind of space for such a large home theater, but the principles shown here also apply to smaller spaces. As always, try it out, and trust your ears.
S7 JVC KENWOOD Canada Inc
JVC KENWOOD Canada took home theater to the next level with a video projector and luxurious, adjustable leather theater seating. First Class, all the way, for folks who value movies and/or concert videos over pure music. All that was missing was the smell of popcorn in the air and a few exploded kernels on the floor.
