MY 25 Hi-Fi Malaysia Group In Kuala Lumpur 2015
Audio Gold For Lucky Men: MY 25 Hi-Fi Malaysia Group
A prosperous two day trip to Kuala Lumpur brings an earful of delights worth millions of dollars.

The Doctor Is In
Absolute power pulsates within our veins.

The moment one walks into the door of Dr. Paris Ng's home you can not help but notice the top-line MBL system. Massively towering MBL 101 X-treme speakers and subwoofer stacks flank four large MBL amplifiers, a Synology NAS, and other bits of electronics. My notes say incredible soundscape with ultra-fast transients. Everything sounded so effortless too. The music is simply presented... it simply is. Incredible extension of the uppermost frequencies and deep bass to literally rattle not just the fillings within your teeth, but the entire house and everything contained within it. Yes we played some typical audiophile music, yet his taste was all over the map... like mine. So with such huge speakers and what seemed like 1.21 jigawatts of power, they foolishly let me control the songs. Fools, fools them all! So pursuing the music contained within his Synology NAS, a very big smile came upon my face. After hours of typical female voice and piano music, stringed instruments and orchestra, it was now late into the evening and it was time to crank it up a bit. Some say that absolute power corrupts absolutely, and I am one who is guilty as charged. So if you had access to such enormous speakers, two massive stacks of subwoofers and enough wattage to power an Asian city what would you do? So like a mischievous child I found just what the good Doctor Ng ordered. Hmmm, I thought to myself, I wonder if they really 'see' this tune coming? So on went Rammstein's Feuer Frei at a volume levels that easily equal, to perhaps exceed in SPL levels, a live concert event. All that is holy, and perhaps unholy, was unleashed into the listening space with a vengeance akin to the mouth torches Rammstein uses within their live concerts! Anyone remember the days when Formula 1 car engines were virtually unlimited in power and the SPL levels they could produce? I'd guesstimate we were easily peaking at north of 110dB. Oh yeah, stand the heck back cuz this baby can fly! Did I mention that absolute power corrupts absolutely? This is self-evident here.

Getting back to my listening notes during, eh hem, normal music, my notes say that the highs are incredibly seamless and so clearly extended. Frankly, amongst the best my ears have ever heard from a music reproduction system. No BS, it is that good! Scratch 'good', make that friggen great! We played a drum track and the cymbals, tambourine, etc sounded right. Keep in mind I know exactly how these should sound as hear them often because, for those who don't know, I literally play these within my extensive home drum set. In some ways it saddens me that very few people ever really know what these instruments sound like on a regular basis. The same can be said for tuned percussion. If more people lived with these instruments as I do, they would inherently know what properly extended high frequencies sound like. What uppermost frequencies some auditory scientists claim are beyond human hearing are, in fact, audible for those who are familiar with said upper harmonics. Perhaps it should be mandatory for reviewers to own crotales, cymbals, and other instruments that inherently have upper frequencies and harmonics that reach well beyond 20 kHz?

The room is interesting as it is two rooms with a central opening, with side walls separating them. The wall opening is such that you can't hear the first reflection point. The central opening is wide enough for you to directly hear the sound from the speakers, yet side reflections are bounced off the right and left separating walls that are parallel to the speaker plane and thus reflections are bounced back into the front of the listening room and not within the room section you are sitting within. Ummm, does anyone reading this have the winning numbers to next week's Powerball Lottery, which is at over $300,000,000 cash value right now? I think I have found a system of ultimate power for both stereo and home theater use.
