From flagship high-end audio debuts to artisan audiophile craftsmanship, this year's HIGH END 2026 Vienna hi-fi show sets a new benchmark for excellence in audio performance.

Audio Group Denmark: Aavik, Børresen, And Ansuz
Taking no fewer than three booths at High End AGD or Audio Group Denmark were more restrained than usual with new products. The emphasis is on the more affordable end of the market for a change as well, with three new Borresen A series loudspeakers all featuring carbon fibre and aramid sandwich cones with dual copper caps on the pole piece allied to ribbon tweeters.

The series consists of the A1 bookshelf (€12,000), A2 floor stander (€16,000) and a larger floor stander called A3 (€21,000). There is also the Borresen BM2 bass module (€9,000), a smaller example of the folded dipole that the Danes are disinclined to call a subwoofer. The Aavik electronics range has a new entry-level streaming amplifier in the U301 (€15,000). This is a 300W Class D design based on the brand's I-x88 series with a resonant mode power supply.

A system combining the U301, A2, and BM2 demonstrated that Jacques Lousier was making impressively dynamic recordings as recently as 2007, his 'Little Fugue in G Minor' really sounding live and direct on what for AGD is a beer budget system.
