Florida International Audio Expo 2023 Show Report

The Big Rooms At FLAX 2023
Florida International Audio Expo's large rooms.
Show Report By Steven R. Rochlin

Suncoast Audio And mbl
Within the Tampa Terrace room was local Sarasota dealer Suncoast Audio with a full mbl system. It's one of those stereo systems where if you have to ask the price then odds are you can't afford it. As expected, these speakers provide a more immersive sound due to their 360-degree sound production, so set up, your room's acoustics, and tuning is a very big factor.

Have heard mbl system sounds many times over the decades. Will hold my other comments as your best bet is to try mbl gear within your room / system before fully committing to them. There was fullness in the lower registers, with fast middle and upper range sound if somewhat time-smeared a bit. With mbl speakers best bet is to try within your listening room and position them carefully. This is why great dealers like Suncoast Audio are so vital to our industry.

DH Labs
Just outside that room was a table featuring DH Labs' Silver Sonic cables. They offer both pre-made cables for your system and bulk cabling for custom home installation. Within Florida, we have an abundance of custom home installers.

With thousands of new homes being built within my area alone over the past handful of years, the custom home and business market continues to grow at a staggering pace!

Suncoast Audio And Clarisys Audio
Another Suncoast Audio room showcased their USA premiere of these Swiss-made Clarisys Audio's model Auditorium panel speakers (~$100,000). They employ a double-sided bass panel, ribbon midrange for 300Hz on up, and ribbon tweeter that starts producing sound at 9000Hz on up.

High-quality copper foil is used for internal P2P wiring to ensure the purity of the signal. Each speaker weighs about 500 lbs. If you love the old Apogee panel speakers (remember those), these would be a natural modern alternative.

The front-end gear looks very promising too with VAC, good digital gear, and my first reel-to-reel sighting at FLAX 2023.
