Part 8: Capital Audiofest 2024 Large Rooms Part 1
Lovely sounds at CAF 2024's large exhibit rooms.
Capital Audiofest 2024 Show Report By Rick Becker
Roosevelt Atma-Sphere
And Classic Audio
Loudspeakers
The Roosevelt room was another of those rooms that looked
about the same with its big horn speakers driven by tube amps and banners from Classic
Audio Loudspeakers, Tri-Planar Tonearms, Purest Audio Design
cables, Extent driver fasteners, and Atma-Sphere tube electronics.
Even the statues of Nipper and the parrots were the same. I also ran into my
acquaintance from Brooklyn, Joe, who is a retired postal worker and master
machinist. Joe is one of those guys that can look at something and say "I can
make one of those" – and he really can. Maybe you've seen his YouTube
where he shows off the huge horn speakers he built from scratch.
Gorgeous woodwork on these Classic Audio
Loudspeakers, and beautiful, dynamic music with only a few Watts driving
them.
This tube amp appeared to be a working prototype.
And here are the specs for this 300B push-pull
monoblock.
A Van den Hul cartridge was mounted on the
Tri-Planar tonearm and I noted the tiny bubble level on the headshell in
addition to one on the turntable itself. Something new to try!
Moving on, I ran the gauntlet of audio banners
toward the two VPI rooms but first stopped in to see the Gershman Acoustics
room.
