A local dealer, Command Performance in nearby Falls Church, Virginia, had the Monroe Room jumping. One of the trends we've all seen coming is the alternative to complicated / separates / wires / boxes, and more integration of multiple functions in a single unit. The Micromega M-One 100 all in one integrated amp ($4999) is one of the newest and finest additions to this trend. Most notably the M-One ($100) the Class D direction and includes a 100 Watt Class A/B stereo amp. But wait, there's more, lots more, LAN Network 24-bit/384kHz async, 768kHz USB passing DXD, DSD, DOP, phono MM/MC, plus balanced and single ended analog inputs, Bluetooth aptX, and DSP with room correction is also provided.
It can even come in the same lovely color as the Focal Sopra N2 speakers ($13,999 per pair), to complete your matched room decor! Jeff Fox from Command Performance, used as sources an Aurender N10 server ($7999), and an AMG Giro turntable ($10,000) fitted with a DS Audio Optical Cartridge and Phono Stage ($8500), Stillpoints rack and acoustic panels and Ansuz cables filled out the system.
This was a very good sounding room; with the M-One seemed to have all the drive and control the Sopra N2s needed. The Sopra's do have some Utopia DNA, and were providing deep low bass and a big soundstage on orchestral material, with tight tuneful portrayal of plucked upright bass, and dynamics that had the room filled with tapping toes.
