Munich HIGH END Show Report 2015 Electronics manufacturer ModWright Instruments was joined by turntable specialist VPI, TuneAudio hornspeakers and Skogrand Cables at HIGH END 2015. ModWright Instruments' and PH-150 phono and Elyse tube DAC ($7900 and $6900 respectively). The Elyse tube DAC features the Burr Brown PCM1794 DAC chip and handles up to 24-bit/192kHz digital audio files. Inputs include RCA and BNC S/PDIF, XLR AES/EBU and of course asynchronous USB. Source was the excellent VPI Prime turntable and the horn speakers are the TuneAudio model ANIMA (€32,000 per pair). ANIMA utilizes a 15" woofer and 5" modified midrange driver mated to a special 1" compression driver with neodymium magnet and titanium diaphragm. Of note is that both bass and mid horns are build from Baltic birch plywood while the high frequency horn is built from TuneAudio's proprietary epoxy compound. Skogrand cabling was used throughout with their Wagner A/C and Tchaikovsky interconnect cables (€2500 and starting at €7280 respectively). The system had wonderful harmonics with all the big dynamics one expects from a properly done horn system. I really enjoyed my time within this room and of course VPI turntables are making their presence known at all the shows around the world.
