Celebrating 29 Years Of Service To Music Lovers
Welcome To CES 1997 In Las
Vegas!
Enjoy
the Music.com's coverage here makes history as the very
first CES high-end audio report to feature photos online! Last year, CES
1996, was the first CES high-end coverage ever posted online (on
CompuServe's CEAUDIO board, later posted on this website). Included within this
year's CES 1997's show report are pictures of
new hot products, toys, the latest in technology, and other items of interest.
Please note that while this coverage has been made more easily readable visually
in 2019, the writing style has not been altered.... for the better.... or
the worse. Your call dudes :-) And with that said....
Please sit back, relax, play your favorite recording, and grab some snakkies
while reading our show coverage. Here we go...

Day One
Mainly i focused all my attention on MUSIC
available on vinyl and CDs. If you've never been to the WCES, the good stuff
sells out fast so i wanted to be first in line for those low pressing numbered
recordings. After all, without cool music what's the point? i also added a
very small selection in the HOT PRODUCTS page and one killer pair of speakers
on the equipment page. Tomorrow we're going to focus our attention to
equipment. Stay tuned cool dudettes / dudes. Same bat time. Same bat channel.
Day
Two
Today we went through the main convention
center where one finds the likes of Sony, Pioneer, JBL as well as smaller, yet
still quite known companies. So day one was mostly music, day two is mainly
equipment. Oooooh yeah, and the most SLAMMATOCIOUS FI party too. MAN, those FI
dudes can PAR-TEE HAR-TEE!!!
Day
Three
Today we struck pure gold, or should i
say chrome. Everyone who knows me will tell ya i enjoy tubes. Well, i finally
found a complete solid-state system i can happily live with. Blasphemy you say!
Hear me now but read it today and slap me happy tomorrow. This lil' ol'
solid-state music reproduction jammed in my humble opinion. On the opposite
extreme we have JOLY. Need i say more?!?!?!Oh yeah. Chesky Records supplied
live tunedge at the Hard Rock in Vegas too!
Day
Four
Friends, Romans and countrymen, lend me an E.A.R. And
while you're at it, a KILLER turntable, a Krell, an' a kool VAC snakkies...
All this and more during our last day of WCES '97.
Final Feelings
It seems to me the "high-end" is "gettin'
it". Most folks just don't have the spendable cash like they did years
ago. Therefore we are seeing the like of Theta producing $1,250 transports and
integrated tube preamp/amplifier combinations. There's just more "bang
for the buck" gear at this show than any other i've seen or heard about.
So enjoy my friends and bask in the glory of true value for your dollars.
With sooo much to see and do, it amazes
me i covered as much as i did. My humble apologies, yet had to select only a
few of the MANY worthy products for my www site. If you're a member of CompuServe,
more goodies will be revealed on my WCES 1997 report in the CEAUDIO forum. A most
humble thanks for your time. If you have any questions, please feel free to
lemme know.
