UK Audio 2023 Show Report
Icon Audio had a plethora of tube amplifiers on display. On demo was the P53 Phono Stage with a separate P53 Power Supply. I rather liked the look of the 30-Watt 300B MKII integrated amplifier.
Alphason Audio presented their HR-200S tonearm, they also had prototype VTA adjustment where you can recall presets you want for specific records – note the gauge. Also, there's a clever technique to set azimuth which doesn't involve compromising the headshell.
The HiFi Lounge room shows some interesting kit including DeVore Fidelity Orangutan O/96 speakers at £14,500, these were powered by a Western Electric 91E which costs around £17,000 depending on options. Other DeVore loudspeakers were on display – the Orangutan O/Baby, O/Micro and O/93.
FrontRo was playing their excellent and fast-sounding electrostatic hybrid speaker. The electrostatic panel is 12" in diameter and gives a wide dispersion characteristic, the bass comprises a 6.5" woofer. No high voltages are required for this implementation, I've included a photo of one of the stators, inside the speaker there are a pair of stators with the diaphragm inside the sandwich.
FrontRo partnered with English Acoustics, their Stereo 41C being in use, this shows familiarity and influence to a Leak design, I like the striking blue color.
