UK Audio 2023 Show Report
NVA were running a system with their passive pre with a stepped attenuator (£975). M600 Mono power amps, £3k per pair, Q1 speaker with upward firing bass £1,000.
NVA were also showcasing at the UK Audio Show 2023 were funky colors of their AP20 integrated amplifiers priced at £1,200, the Cube 3 speaker costing £1,000.
A long-time favorite of mine is Longdog Audio products. They were using their one-off Perspex open baffles with Lowther and Supravox drivers and nicely displayed crossovers. The system included the Longdog MCj Hybrid Phono Amp, £1,680, a Music First preamplifier / attenuator, power amps were Longdog P6100M 100W monoblocks, £3500 for a pair. Great sounds and a fun team.
Phonia is a new brand for 2023, they come from Poland and have three sets of loudspeakers, Pacto 200 £3,000, Gravis 400 £6,000 and Apertus 600 with mid and treble open baffle £12k. The Apertus is what I listened to, they impressed and certainly filled the room with sound in an effortless manner.
Emilen Audio had several products on display. The bigger system was based around the ES-1 Reference active speakers whose crossovers are implemented via DSP which then feeds to class D amplification. DSP facilitates the use of very steep slopes at the crossover points. These awesome active speakers are priced at £25,000. The Emilen Equinox MC Phono stage (balanced and single-ended inputs) is £6,995, the Equinox preamp is £9,995.
The second system from Emilen comprised their Solstice Phono stage at £2,975 and D-Block monoblock power amps at £7,995 for the pair.
The main Emilen system with the ES-1 Reference speakers was fronted by a Lumley Audio turntable, the Statosphere MK3 with the Stratonum Tonearm MK1. The John Jeffries designs are quite a statement of style with serious solidity. Their system was magnificent.
