Beach 2015 Report
On A Higher Note
was here at T.H.E. Show Newport 2015 with the Luxman PD-171 turntable ($6400), played Doug McLeod's
Exactly Like This on vinyl LP. Soundsmith's wonderful moving iron man cartridge ($7500) fed the Luxman EQ-500 vacuum tube phono stage. Luxman's EQ-500 phonostage ($7500 on up) uses a SRPP final stage cathode follower and four 12AX7, two 12AU7 and an EZ81 vacuum tube. There are both balanced XLR and single
ended RCA outputs, a mono/stereo switch plus phase invert for the balanced output.
The Luxman DA-06 DAC ($4990), Luxman C900u control amplifier ($19,900), Luxman M-900u stereo amplifier ($19,900), Sonorus ATR10 reel to reel ($17,500) and Otari MT20 1/2" reel to reel was playing Tape Project master tapes.
Great guy Philip O'Hanlon of On A Higher Note was using his Apple MacBook Air to running Audirvana Plus software ($74). Speakers were the very stylish Vivid Giya G3 speakers ($40,000) and there was an Eclipse TD520 subwoofer ($3600) in the room too. Sonorus Audio' Proximity Subwoofer Controller ($3600) was also out to good use. Cabling was by Shunyata cables as were the AC line conditioners.
Heather listened to the Eclipse TD M1 ($1300) small monitors that handle digital, analog and AirPlay inputs. We're still waiting for Heather's report from T.H.E. Show Newport 2015 for more details on what she heard.
