Came To TAVES 2015 And Shocked That They're Killing...
TAVES is much more than just a high-end audio show. When it comes to pursuing the latest in technologies they are head and shoulders above your normal 'high-end audio' event. Technologies including robotics, drones, alternative human transportation devices, virtual reality, automobiles plus artists also take stage to showcase their talents and wares. When was the last time an industry show had five TV networks reporting on the event? TAVES 2015 has five, perhaps six, with network professionals on-hand. This is not just someone with their iPhone or low-end consumer grade camcorder either, as professional use broadcast-grade equipment just as high-end audio is amongst the best audio gear available. On the first day of TAVES there were three TV stations here. We're talking lights, camera and action! High-end audio Minions seem content with any coverage, yet if we as an industry are selling $50,000 loudspeakers, $20,000 turntable setups and $10,000 amplifiers want to seem professional, we as members of the press need to be equally professional in the quality of presenting this industry to the public at large. This includes providing professional-grade photographs. Call it eye candy as is seen in Vogue and every major fashion and luxury goods magazine. Minions are great and we love them, yet here in Canada TAVES is delivering something far more special to expand their overall audience. With that said, Enjoy the Music.com's Rick Becker is busy with his high-end audio coverage and I'm here to report on the overall sights, sounds, and experience of this multifaceted event. It is no secret I'm stepping back a bit as Editor of Enjoy the Music.com and focusing on development work as the Creative Director here and in other sectors of consumer electronics. Thus it makes sense for me to bring more tech into our high-end audio technology landscape.
TAVES 2015 is an first-rate event for my scribblings concerning future technology and how it may intertwine with those seeking the very best in audio playback. As our modern lifestyle is becoming more tech driven, those who love robotics, 3D printing, virtual reality, etc also might see the value of investing more into their home and portable audio systems. Call it the inescapable intermingling of entertainment devices that has evolved from the early years of development to now simply becoming part of our daily experience. The best movies would be far less captivating to humans if the soundtrack, audio effects, etc were not equally as moving. Try watching your favorite movie with the sound off. Now listen to the movie without video. Which experience do you find more captivating?
Yes high-end audio has an older generation of enthusiasts, including my 80 years young dad, who decided to stay in the early 2000s of technology as the world has quickly embraced streaming music, apps and the like. Vacuum tube amps and turntables are still hittin' it out of the ballpark with today's youthful savvy types, yet they also love their NAS drives, cloud storage, streaming media and control via apps to quench their entertainment thirsts. Thus my coverage of TAVES 2015 will be a variety of what is here.
Life moves pretty fast and with all the above said it is time to dig in deep to TAVES 2015. Rick Becker's high-end audio focus will be forthcoming and of course I'll be dippin' 'n' slidin' the audio 'tween the tech chachkies. Came to TAVES 2015 and shocked that they're killing the dedicated audio-only event. Instead, they are highly successful in delivering much more. We need more shows like TAVES.
