The Anticipated New PureAudioProject Trio10
And AGD At FIAE 2024
Weeks before the Florida International Audio Expo, PureAudioProject owner and brilliant audio engineer Ze'ev Schlik teased me with sneak peek pics of his new Trio10 open baffle loudspeaker. Celebrating their 10th anniversary, with this new design comes the implementation of the highly-regarded Heil AMT (Air Motion Transformer) tweeter.
This tweeter is known for its incredible speed and transparency, with amazing sound that is silky smooth to the very top frequency range. The main speaker chassis for all drivers is extremely rigid, with the lower section of their well-reviewed Quintet10 loudspeaker design, yet at the top is the new AMT implementation. A pair of specially-modified Morel 10" midrange/bass drivers handle the lowermost frequencies. The crossover is a first-order series topology to provide the best integration within this true dipole design.
Driving the PureAudioProject Trio10 open baffle loudspeakers were AGD's very impressive Alto MKII stereo reference preamplifier ($7,500) plus AGD's powerful 200-Watt Audion MkIII monoblock amplifiers ($7,850/pr). Cabling was from Silversmith Audio and at FIAE 2024 they featured their Fidelium loudspeaker cables ($1395 for 8' length) plus Fidelium XLR and RCA cables ($975 for 3' length). It was refreshing to see a stereo sound system setup that was simple and direct.
As for the sound, all the great accolades you've read over the past decade about the PureAudioProject open baffle speakers are true! And now with an AMT tweeter for the uppermost frequencies, the highs are without a doubt some of the very best I heard during FIAE 2024. With a very lifelike midrange that captivates the ear, of course, the highs are smooth, seriously fast, and clean, with the bass being tight and tuneful.
Imaging is one of the great hallmarks of open baffle design, and here PureAudioProject really gets it right. The soundscape is very nicely focused between the speakers, yet there is a beautiful expansion both outside and deep behind the loudspeaker plane. Here, I'll post some links to our AGD and PureAudioProject reviews so you can learn more.
