Florida International Audio Expo 2024 Show Report By Steven R. Rochlin

  We've all seen the black and silver boxes, perhaps they were bestowed wooden side panels and the like to make them more attractive. Now what if, and am just saying someone who is a true artist in the world of visual styling and sonic perfection decided to create a brand? Mr. Kostas Metaxas' audio products Metaxas & Sins truly deliver inspiring stylistic designs with a sense of humanity. His products would look exceptional within the most modern luxury homes... and the Museum of Modern Art.

For those unfamiliar, Kostas Metaxas is a multi-award earning designer and artist, plus his deep passion for music means he is an electrical and recording engineer too. Kostas' incredible Tourbillon RX (T-RX) reel-to-reel magnetic tape recorder / player is an excellent example of his passion for achieving the very best sound fidelity and build quality. On his website, phrases like 'audio without comprise' and 'connoisseur of fine music' only give hints of a man who refuses to choose the second-best path.

In 1981 Mr. Kostas Metaxas formed Metaxas & Sins, which today both the man and his brand have global recognition. I met Kostas decades ago at the HIGH END show in Germany and immediately was captivated by his artistic creations. He has also designed luxurious pens of all types, home furnishings, lighters (for Dupont), and so much more. Thankfully, he also designs audio gear.

Ah yes, Kostas is also an admirer of horology. He worked together with L'Epee 1839 to create his mechanical clock / headphone stand / amplifier design. Above is the hairspring and various mechanical bit for the clock.

As for the sound, it was bright and lacked bass, though have heard Kostas & Sins sound far better so will chalk it up to new gear, setup, or any number of things that work against exhibitors during shows. According to Metaxas & Sins, their customers "Generally they view audio as a well-deserved indulgence. But no matter what their occupation, their preoccupation is to know and appreciate the difference between better and best, to listen with their heart and ears and blissfully 'get lost in the music'."

Without a doubt this gear is far more than 'just audio', it is a selection of expertly crafted Artistic Audio Art. As always... enjoy the music.
