Muraudio SP1 Speakers And Simaudio Moon 340iX
Muraudio was at Florida Audio Expo 2020 with their SP1 electrostatic speakers (ESL, $16,400). Muraudio seeks to pushed ESL technology to new heights. Their SP1 has a very special 120-degree Continuous Curve Point Source ESL panel with 1650 square cm of surface area. This provides good volume output with coherence, plus more surface means you can achieve higher volume output without unwanted distortion. If you need more, their larger fully omni-directional PX2 can fit the bill quite nicely.
Each SP1 also integrates four custom designed 6" aluminum cone drivers to create an immersive listening experience. Getting back to ESL technology, for those unfamiliar, to quote Muraudio: "...electrostatic speakers (ESL) use electrostatically charged micro-thin polymer film suspended between two perforated aluminum plates to reproduce midrange and high frequencies. The SP1 incorporates Muraudio's Mylar Diaphragm Technology for enhanced dynamics through improved distribution of acoustic energy across the continuous curve of the ESL panel. The lighter-than-air film responds with matchless speed and precision, delivering clarity, detail, and natural sound. A Mylar membrane barely 3.8 microns thick (0.0038mm) has the same mass as a mere 5mm layer of air."
For lower frequency sound production below 750Hz, the two pairs of custom long throw 6" aluminum drivers are (each pair) within their own sealed enclosure. Tuned inertial reactionary dampers aid to ensure tight bass response. All told, Muraudio's SP1's curved wood cabinet is designed for symmetric drivers in a D'Appolito configuration to ensure time and phase consistency.
Muraudio's SP1 ESL speakers were mated to a Simaudio Moon 340iX integrated amplifier with Hi-Res Audio DAC internally. For source, an HD music streaming service was employed. My listening notes for Muraudio's room at FLAX 2020 says their room had tight and tuneful bass, seriously impressive definition, plus fast mids and highs. The SP1 speakers are truly something very special!
