Audiofest 2022 Show Report Part 1
Fine sounds on the fourth floor.
Show
Report By Rick Becker
On a Saturday morning better suited to hiking up a mountain in the Adirondacks or enjoying the fall foliage on a bicycle in western New York, I cruised up to the Toronto Audiofest because, well, that's what I also do. And I hadn't been there since the 2019 show, what with Covid and border closures. It was really good to be back again. And at the industry banquet that evening, it was announced that attendance had reached 2500, more than double last year's show, so I was not alone in my priorities. People at the banquet were really happy about the
attendance. The prices are in Canadian dollars unless otherwise stated... or unless I've made a mistake, which happens. Speakers are priced per pair. And unlike past show reports, I will refrain from identifying the Best Rooms until the end of the report to avoid awarding too many rooms in this more modestly sized show.

Part 2
Thirst for more on the third floor.
Show
Report By Rick Becker
First, to finish up
a detail from Part 1, Mike Tang can be reached via e-mail
at by people in need of phono cartridge repairs. Mike will be glad to
email photos of his previous accomplishments. And a tip of the hat to Vilip Mak
of Audio Excellence for putting me in touch with Mike. (We will be getting to
the Audio Excellence room much further on in my coverage.) Having completed the fourth floor, I returned to
the elevator and dropped down to the third floor to maintain my orientation in
the building. Room 325, hosted by Vinyl Sound was just to the left as I
exited the elevator bay. Harbeth SHL5plus XD stand-mounted monitors
were sounding good with the 20mm dome super tweeter that has transformed the XD
series, bringing more presence to the treble range and making Harbeth more
competitive in today's market.

Part 3
Musical magic while listening on Level 2.
Show
Report By Rick Becker
Level 2 was
comprised of a hallway of hotel rooms, a bunch of conference rooms, and a
walkway around the atrium where there were a variety of tables with either
silent or headphone displays. Stepping off the elevator, there was a table with
a cable vendor in either direction. One was for Audio Sensibility —
very familiar to me as I've very favorably reviewed many of their products
since they first began. And the other was Neotech, a relatively quiet
company on the high-end scene. It turns out Steven Huang of Audio
Sensibility is now doing the importing and marketing for Neotech
in Canada. Audio Sensibility bulk cable is built to his specifications by
the same large Taiwanese cable company that owns Neotech (and
also does OEM production for a number of big-name cable companies in the
industry).

Lower level rooms and ground floor in part
4.
Show
Report By Rick Becker
Coming down from the
Second Level I stepped off the elevator and went to the KEF display near the
registration area. I admired this presentation numerous times in passing during
the show. Three pairs of colorful KEF speakers and a KEF subwoofer stood in
front of a digitally created backdrop that was pure eye candy. As you can glean from the photo, the displays in
this area were busy and the mezzanine to the immediate right looked like an
extension of the restaurant with virtually no one there, even at this early
afternoon hour. The grey KEF LS60 wireless floorstanders ($7000
USD) were the tight ends on this offensive line and I was caught off guard by
their diminutive size.

The Best Rooms At Toronto Audiofest 2022
In the past I've identified some of what I felt were the Best Rooms at the show as I wrote the report. There are always so
many variables it is never a level playing field. I'm not comfortable crowning
1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. because I know I have my shortcomings and maybe it was just
the particular music that was playing at the moment that swayed my opinion one
way or the other. Instead, consider the "Best Rooms" those I would
recommend an enthusiast visit if they only had a short amount of time to
experience the show. Where could they go in a two or three-hour time span and
leave thinking "Wow! I really heard and saw some great-sounding gear at
this show!"
So in no particular order, except working from the 4th floor down, here's where I would have suggested you visit:
Fourth Floor (Part 1)
Tri-Art Audio (432)
Coherent Speakers and Baetis Audio (437)
Muraudio, Constellation Audio, and exaSound (441)
Apple Tree HiFi and BSC Research (443)
Magnepan (450) Concept presentation
Third Floor (Part 2)
Angela Yeung-Gilbert Yeung (353) Concept presentation
Lii Song Canada and Galion Audio (354)
Second Floor (Part 3)
Oracle Audio Technologies, Gershman Acoustics, Eon Art, and Cardas Cables (Mayfair)
Lobby Level (Part 4)
Acora Acoustics (Sutton C)
Wynn Audio (Carlyle)

More About The Toronto Audiofest
2022
All visitors share one thing in common, they have a passion for
music! While some are pure audiophiles, many others are just curious to discover the benefits of better sound.
Approximately 60% of Toronto Audiofest's visitors are under 55 years of age and 20% are female;
and so this event encourages families to discover the show together.
You may wonder what is the entrance fee? Since
this event is operated by a non-profit organization, they are asking only $10
a day, or all three days for $20. If you want to contribute to their
development, feel free to donate more.
The show organizers have more than 50 years of experience in the music and audio industry. Like everyone, they started with a love of music that soon became enlightened by better sound reproduction. Their passion for high-end audio started as a hobby but quickly became their career. Above all, the two entrepreneurs are driven by their care of people. They are fully dedicated at servicing their exhibitors as if they were family and this concern extends to making sure all the
fest's visitors have a wonderful experience.
Toronto Audiofest 2022 is looking for ways to attract more consumers to quality audio
