The Home Entertainment Show 2008 (THE Show)
T.H.E. Show 2008

Tuesday

Reference Recordings, who earned an Enjoy the Music.com Blue Note Award, were selling two new recordings. They also announced in the near future they will be offering 24-bit/176.4kHz Internet downloads of their catalog. They are currently going to be in wav format and are looking into Flac.

Acoustic Sounds had three new vinyl albums for sale that include Hugh Masekela, Ry Cooder & V.M. Bhatt, and Rickie Lee Jones.

With the whole war on DVD-Audio and SACD basically fizzling into obscurity, and HD-DVD being nearly killed by Blu-ray, vinyl is alive and well with a plethora of titles available from Classic Records.

NSR Research had their D3 Concerto Sonata prototype ($4495) floorstanding loudspeaker. The company uses their Acoustic Projection Lens (APL) bass enclosure for enhancing both the response and accuracy of the lowermost frequencies. This allows the unit to produce frequencies down to 20Hz. Tweeter is a 1-inch ring radiator and there is a pair of 6-inch driver for midrange.

Antique Sound Labs' new Cadenza DT monoblock amplifier ($6500) is a two chassis affair. The top unit, seen here from above) houses the tubes and analog circuitry while the bottom houses the transformers. They sounded really good driving the Reference 3a Veena floorstanding loudspeakers.

Magnapan had a lovely room with their new on wall MMC2 planar loudspeakers ($1500). These 'invisible' speakers are motorized so that they fold in to the wall when desired, yet fold out to optimum angle for ultimate listening pleasure.
