There are only a few achievements in film history that have reached such status and recognisability even beyond their genre, in this case science fiction (SF), as is the case with Stanley Kubrick's film "2001: A Space Odyssey".
This year we celebrate half a century since his first performance, which is still a delight for the admirers of film art. We remember 20 years after the debut film Guy Ritchie's "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" came out, and the distinguished Canadian director Lynne Ramsey who won this year's Cannes Film Festival for Best Picture Award for his "You Were Never Really Here" movie scenario and the main male role.
Recalling the past musical times, we can not bypass the album “Astral Weeks”, by singer-songwriter Van Morrison, who has, in the year of 2018, marked 50 years of work and who our music critic Denis Leskovar considers to be "one of the key achievements in rock history". We give you a more detailed view of this album's release date, with a review of the rich career of Van Morrison. As to younger musicians, the Arctic Monkeys group gathered around the talented Alex Turner, after each new release, show that they don’t lack creativity and desire to explore a different musical expression. After their first global hit "I Bet That You Look Good on the Dancefloor", many have seen them as yet another instant rock band, but Turner and his "arctic monkeys" have been proving them wrong, which can clearly be seen with their new album "Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino".
In more peaceful music waters, our jazz critic Davor Hrvoj has talked to a young jazz star - Linda May Han Oh, about her music, but also about environmental issues where she acts as an activist. She has recently performed at the Music Academy Hall in Zagreb, as part of the Jazz.hr Croatian Composers Festival. Many have proclaimed her performance as the best jazz concert of the season.
