My passion for music and technology has inspired me to explore many areas of science ever since I was young. Space and astronomy are topics that have fascinated me for as long as I can remember. It should come as no surprise then that I am writing this column as I watch a historic moment unfold live on You Tube- the launch of the SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket. This rocket is the most powerful operational rocket in the world by a factor of two, capable of lifting nearly 64 metric tons into orbit (that's a mass greater than a 737 jet loaded with passengers and fuel). The Falcon Heavy is important for many different reasons. One of them is that it will make spaceflight much cheaper and easier. Congratulations to Elan Musk and his team for this remarkable, history-defining achievement! I recommend reading more about this momentous moment on www.Space.com.
Back on planet Earth, CES, the greatest consumer tech show in the world wrapped up a few weeks ago and once again an amazing number of prototypes and new products for 2018 were revealed. Our coverage in this issue barely scratches the surface of what was showcased at CES but it highlights the greatest innovations we came across at the show. I guarantee you'll find something here that you absolutely can't live without.
Getting your music system to sound its best goes well beyond just assembling components and speakers that "play" well together. Using stock (OEM) or poor quality cables in your system could be preventing it from reaching its full potential. Check out my advice on upgrading cables in your system (on page 12) and what sonic improvements you can expect to hear when integrating better quality power cords in your system. If you're passionate about music then you likely have a pretty good music system at home and a playlist of favorite albums that you really enjoy listening to.
If you have a keen ear then you know how different one album can sound compared to another- some albums are recorded far better than others. Ever wonder what one of NOVO's contributors has in their favorite playlist? Check out Kevin Rak's article on page 32.
And if you're looking to shape up for the spring, check out Stephanie Greenall's feature "Getting Healthy With Tech" on page 8.
