Pro-Ject, Sonus faber, And Sumiko
The hits just keep coming here at Florida Expo 2019 show as McIntosh Group's room featured Pro-Ject, Sonus faber and Sumiko. As you'd expect the sound was properly airy, smoooooth, and extremely musical. Pro-Ject's 6Perspex turntable had a lovely Sumiko Songbird moving-coil cartridge (only $899 for an MC cartridge!).
To add a bit of humor here on a very sensitive subject amongst audiophiles, the Songbird qualifies for Hi-Res Audio labeling as it has a frequency response from 12Hz to 40kHz. Analog lovers need not care about such mainstream marketing matters, as it is the resulting sound that counts, and Sumiko has another winner on their hands! FYI we just reviewed the Sumiko Rainier ($149) MM cartridge at this link.
Sonus faber Sonetto II stand-mounted monitors are far too beautiful to try and show in the above pic. You truly have to see them in person to fully appreciate how incredibly exquisite Sonus faber's woodwork is. A thing of beauty; perhaps only equaled by the rosewood on my extensive Sonor drumset.
Front-end for digital / streaming was Pro-Ject Streamer Stream Box S2 Ultra and DAC Pre Box S2 Digital, with preamp duties being handled by their Tube Box DS2. Pro-Ject's very reasonably priced Power Amp Amp Box RS Stereo drove the Sonus faber Sonetto II speakers.
Here's a perfect example of one of those rooms, as a reviewer, you wish you could just plop down in a chair, listen to album after album, and just forget that there's a show to report on. Ah well, all work and no play... off to the next room we go!
