MBL, United Home Audio, And Wireworld
MBL North America was at Florida Audio Expo with a complete system i've heard many times in various forms. Nothing much has really changed, as you need massive power to drive these speakers, with powered subwoofers needed for true deep bass production. Being very elegant in style and built to high standards, MBL's N31 DAC–CD player ($15,400) fed their N11 stereo preamp ($15,600) for signal switching. Powering the speakers were N15 monoblocks ($17,800 each) that drove the mbl 101 E MKII Radialstrahler loudspeakers ($70,500 per pair).
Reel-to-reel was represented by the incredibly sexy United Home Audio Ultima4 tape deck ($30,000), with connections supplied by Wireworld with their Series 8 Eclipse cabling, plus SMT of Sweden for room treatment.
Alas, never found time to fully sit and listen as it seemed the sound was not up to the usually quality one hopes to hear at shows. To be fair, many know that these speakers can be a bit particular in setup, as have heard MBL speakers sound very good to far less than optimal. Try before you buy within your listening room is my best advice, and remember these speakers need a gargantuan amount of power to drive them.
