The Home Entertainment Show Report, Part

Ah yes, the
TechDAS Air
Force One turntable ($123,000 including tonearm) is suspended by air; then we
have the air bearing platter and of course vacuum hold down. Could write
hundreds more words about this turntable, yet it is far easier to simply
suggest you see their website. An outstanding turntable design!
For those who
may not have the over $120k, their Air Force Two ($54,000) uses a cast
technique chassis, air bearing, etc including vacuum hold down. This specific model
photo’ed here is perhaps one of only three in the world at the moment. Full
production begins shortly.
Here we have the
Burmester 082 integrated amp, DAC/CD 061 and lastly the B25 ($20,000, $17500,
and $15,000). But what really made this system shine were the MIT SL Matrix 70
speaker cables and SL Matrix 36 interconnects ($4999 and $2499). MIT
manufacturers their cables to exacting standards, so you know they can easily
improve Burmester gear. Sadly, those who bought into the whole Burmester
$50,000 Music unit are said to still
be waiting for a proper DSD solution while other manufacturers are already
producing quad DSD.
The SPL Phonitor 2
($1899) handles a wide variety of headphones, is a preamp, and has more
features than you can shake a stick it (and I can shake a very
mean stick!).
MrSpeakers new
Alpha Dog headphones ($599.99 including Canard cable) have a special cable
connector that are a click-to-lock with retracting sleeve. This connector aid
in providing a low profile for comfort and reliability. The cable is available
in all normal configurations. What sets these great-sounding headphone apart
from others are in the use of 3D printing for the rear cups and baffles. The
cups are a specially-designed double-wall with matrix, which can only be
produced via 3D printing. The frequently response is from 18 Hz to 18 kHz and
they do indeed sound very full and natural. The MrSpeakers Alpha Dog are 90dB
efficient and weight 440 grams.
Tyll Hertsens of
InnerFidelity and Dan Clark of MrSpeakers having a great time with
their headphones. Rock on bros!
How about some used vinyl? We got ya covered
here at T.H.E. Show 2014!
Welcome to the
big room! FM Acoustic had the Polymer Audio Research MKS-X speakers mated with
the FM Acoustic Mono amps ($60,000 and $10,00 respectively). The front end was
by Weiss.
The Absolute Sound has none other than
the incredible Robert Harley showcasing their Illustrated
History of High-End Audio: Loudspeakers book.
In the Kimberly
Kable room is their new WATTGATE model ‘evolution’ audio grade audio
connections. Improvements from the previous model includes all Hex level
hardware, they accept heavier gauge wire and the company has refined the lock
box design. The evolution are available in three flavors that include plain
brass, gold, or rhodium plated configuration.
