1984 Corvette
Stuart Allum's 1984 Corvette was filled with audio ecstasy... let alone
the car itself! Under the hood you'll find two 6volt Optima batteries connected in series.
The reason for this is that the standard Optima battery was too big, yet with persistence
and knowing how a high-quality power supply is necessary for high-quality sound, Stuart
carefully installed and connected these two in the small battery compartment in his
Corvette. Streetwire fuse blocks and a one farad Streetwire power cap. round off his power
supply (see center of picture below).
Image Dynamics IDQ-10dvc speakers
In the read hatchback are located two Image Dynamics IDQ-10 dual voice
coil 10" subwoofers.
Zapco Z100C2-SL Amplifiers
These three Zapco amplifiers are competition ready and feature 25w x 2,
yet run at 100w x 2 at one ohm! Here's proof that 'cheater amps' can give ya an advantage
and avoid competing in the higher power classes where things get very tough fast!
Just above the subwoofers are two four-way Streetwire gold plated power distribution
blocks. One block is used for the positive power, the other for negative. To protect and
add a phat look to his hatchback is an engraved custom made plexiglas cover.
Phoenix Gold EQ230
Underneath the passenger seat is a Phoenix Gold EQ230 third-octave analog
equalizer. This unit allows separate equalization adjustments for the right and left
channels.
Image Dynamics IDQ-8 Driver
Located in each footwell were custom made enclosures that hold an Image
Dynamics IDQ-8 midbass driver. As i've said before, put as much bass in the front of the
vehicle as you can. Located on the bottom of the dash are horn drivers. This helps to make
sure the soundstage and imaging are firmly placed up front. Stuart carefully chose his
source components by using the Eclipse ECD-510 who's digital output send the signal to his
Zapco DAII-SL bitstream digital to analog converter. With careful planning and ingenuity
one can have the car and the sound system of their dreams. Looks like Stuart's one happy
man!
