(Speakers)

There's an old saying. How do we do it? VOLUME, VOLUME, VOLUME!!! Well just look at these new speakers. Man, i remember when we had to use home speakers. Does anyone remember the Jensen 6x9's back in the early 80's? They were the best thing in those days... seriously! If you wanted killer bass and sound then you'd put home speakers in your car. Come take a look at what's now available here in 1997. Thank G-d for progress huh?

  Aura Subwoofer Cut-Away

Aura Systems Inc., best known for their Bass Shakers (which we'll get to later) was showing a cut out of their 15" woofer with Neo-Radial Technology (NRT) magnets. This technology has been used by professional recording and concert folks and is now available to us 12 volts dudettes/dudes! This technology in Aura's speakers feature lightweight, yet highly powerful Neodymium ring magnet which is radial; charged and placed within the voice coil gap. What all that basically means is a lightweight, yet very powerful magnet to keep the voice coil in line with reduced distortion, high power handling, and large excursion capability! Also new is their introduction of the Bass Shaker Plus system. i'm sure you've all heard of the Bass Shaker (unless you're heads been on planet Uranus). This new system also includes a 'Class D' 100 watts digital amplifier which is made specifically for a pair of Bass Shakers. With a built in crossover and a remote level control, this new additions adds greater flexibility to the Bass Shaker system. So if you have almost no space for subwoofer yet want to feel the bass (like in my Honda Del Sol or my friends Mazda Miata), the new Bass Shaker Plus system may be just what your looking for. If you want to learn more about these and all of Aura Systems Inc. products see their www site.

Polk Audio Just introduced their improved EX Series II speakers. The new tweeter is a 3/4" silk/polymer composite dome with Neodymium magnet, and fluid cooled for higher power handling. The new larger drivers feature liquid crystal polymer cones, rubber surrounds, and low profile design. To round out the improvements are the new crossovers gold plated terminals and hidden mounting screws for a clean looking install. The separates model EX 2560 features a 6 1/2" driver, a 3/4" tweeter, and an outboard crossover unit priced at $249.95. Model's EX 2550 and EX 2540 feature a 5 1/4" or a 4 1/2" unit respectively with tweeter and separate crossover unit. A new triax unit called the EX 693a 6 x 9 ($179.95) was also shown. Rounding off their improved line of EX drivers are their coax units like the EX 692a 6 x 9 ($149.95), the EX 652a 6 1/2" ($109.95), EX 502a 5 1/4" ($99.95)... Just too much stuff to list here so why not check out Polk's www site for more info.

            MTX Thunder 510X3

New in the MTX line is their Tri-Sub enclosure Thunder 510X3 ($519.95) featuring three 10" Black Gold woofers in a trapezoid bass enclosure. The rear wall of this unit is clear plexiglas for that 'show car' look. It's small footprint (HWD 13.25" x 35.25" x 14.5") means you'll get more bass in lass space. It's also an almost prefect fit in the new Camaro and Firebird. This baby presents your amplifier with a 4ohm load and can handle 750 watts RMS and 1500 watts peak! To say my bass appetite was satisfied when i saw this unit would be an understatement. MTX makes more speakers, amplifiers and other cool stuff. Best bet would be to check out MTX's www site.

And if space is low Bazooka just released their two new lines of bass tubes. Specifically, their EL and Reference line. The EL line is like their current offerings but with a new speaker grill (thank G-d because my older designed grill falls off a lot). The new Model EL504, EL 604, EL 804, and EL 104 feature 5", 6.5", 8" and 10" drivers respectively. Priced at $119 for the 5", $139 for the 6", $179 for the 8", and $239 for the 10" it surely a good boom for the buck. Just like the older units, they offer a 30 watt with crossover self-powered versions for the 5", 6.5", and 8" are available ($209, $249, and $289 respectively). The real news is their new Reference Series. Higher quality speakers, gold plated higher quality terminals, and more power in the self-powered units make up some of the improvements in their Reference Series units. Offered in their Reference Series are the RS 604 6 1/2" speaker, RS 804 8 1/2" speaker, and RS 104 10" speaker ($179, $219, and $279 respectively). The powered unit feature an 80 watt amplifier with crossover for louder volume levels then their basic EL Series counterparts. Models RS6a, RS8a and RS10a are priced at $269, $289, $319 respectively. For more information please see whatssup at the SAS Bazooka www site.

DEI 2056

DEI started with alarms and now offers amplifiers and speakers too! The model DEI 2056 ($250) is just one example to the cool new stuff they have. This two way plate speaker features a 5 1/4" injection-molded graphite woofer, 1" swivel-mounted ferrofluid cooled silk dome tweeter and a 12db per octave passive crossover. Ya see the DEI just below the tweeter on the right. If you input too much wattage, it glows as it uses up that extra power and saves the speakers from blowing. Pretty cool idea in my humble opinion. DEI also now offers their HE Series Tube Subwoofers. Available in either 6 1/2", 8", and 10" drivers they all feature high-efficiency treated paper cones, foam surround, and large magnets. No pricing but they are said to be "affordably priced". Also new in their Viper alarm 550 Super HF is a remote which is capable of a 1/4 mile range! This new feature will soon be available on their new Python 1500 Super HF and Sidewinder 6500 HF. There's more, yet this is a speaker page here. Why not give DEI a call toll free at 1-800-568-1368 for more info.

Cerwin-Vega 124/128 Subwoofer

Surely no stranger to producing big bass is Cerwin-Vega. New to their woofer line-up are the Vega Series woofers. This new line features" Unitized Magnetic Circuit" which focus' more of the magnets into the magnetic gap. This helps reduce the risk of flux loss due to magnetic "overhanging" beyond the gap plate diameter (huh?). Ok, what that basically means is that the magnetic structure is better focused to give better control of the voice coil, which in turn will produce less distortion. Also included in their Vega Series are large 3" voice coils, vented pole piece, diecast frame, and gold plated terminals. Models include the VEGA 84/88 8" unit which handles max. 500 watts, VEGA 104/108 10" woofer which handles 600 watts max, model VEGA 124/128 12" unit which handles 800 watts max, and lastly model VEGA 154/158 which handles a max wattage of an outstanding 1000 watts! The last number in the model numbers mean either a four or an eight ohm version of each driver are available. No www site, no toll free number could i find. Looks like they need to get with it (or i'm going blind).
