By Steven R. Rochlin
Phew! Oh my goodness did I actually
get this issue online in time? How did that
ever happen? We have two show reports, five World Premieres, two really cool
videos and a new section called Lifestyle & Design. There's more of course,
such as music reviews, other reviews, partner magazine reviews... Oh yeah, there's
my own resurgence of what was once called Senseless Ramblings. My new column 'From
The Editor's Desk, which does feature a photo of my new hand carved wood desk
setup with dual desktop audio systems, will hopefully be making a monthly
appearance with my normal In This Issue article.
For you vinyl lovers we have two World Premiere VPI
turntable reviews. No, not two reviewers covering the same turntable but World
Premiere reviews of the VPI Scout 1.1 turntable and their Classic 3
turntable.
But There's More!!! Tell 'em what else they get Johnny! Well, you get more
equipment reviews including the World Premiere of Napa Acoustic's NA 208 H $299
headphone amplifier. See, we haven't forgotten about those seeking great
products on a budget. Then again we conquered the high sensitivity speaker world
with Enjoy the Music.com's World
Premiere of Avantgarde Acoustic's Uno Fino loudspeakers. You want more? Oh yeah,
we're bringin' it alright as we
have many other reviews for your reading pleasure. So check out all the reviews,
but wait there's still more!
Lifestyle & Design Am sure quite a few audiophiles out there will also
find their eyes glazing over at our new Lifestyle & Design section. For some
people these are very rare items to be lusted over from afar. For others,
including myself, they may be something that goes perfect on that table, or in
my garage, or closet with this shirt I got in Milan... Some people work
at finding their style, whilst others simply have
style yet want to find ways to express it. Call it a natural sense of lifestyle
where such rare creations are simply placed around one's house to make it, well,
their home. A Honda or Mazda takes
you from point A to point B in a no-nonsense manner, yet in a Bentley one
simply arrives.
Some
of these precious and rare creations may also be very good investments, or items
of such high style and grace they genuinely needed to be showcased within Enjoy
the Music.com. The new MusicMachine fits this bill nicely. Am never
one to say what to invest in and what not to, yet as a daily wearer of various
Patek Philippe watches within my collection over these many years, it must be
said these are excellent items that easily retain their value over not just
months or years, but for generations.
Style without substance is just that, yet those items with classic style and
substance seem to never have an end lifecycle per se. For example, a Brioni or
Armani dark Navy blue wool suit in a standard cut will always
be in style, whereas Bell Bottom jeans have come and gone. A modern Patek
Philippe Calatrava or Rolex Daytona may also meet the requirements for 'future
classics'.
And Don't Forget To See... Many of you probably just ignore the DIY section.
Shame on you!!! This month we have a review of Bent Audio's AVC-1 modular remote
control autoformer preamplifier ($1600 as complete kit). You can ever get a
balanced version too! It is very easy to build and sounds remarkable! Then we
have Grey Rollins giving us an education on resistors. Do you realize how many
of these things are in your high-end audio gear? So please remember to check out
the DIY section too as these guys work really put in the effort for you!As always, in the end what really
matters is that you...
