Della Manley
This CD is one of many which arrive on my doorstep in the hopes for a full review... or even a small mention within an equipment review. While this CD is a bit on the crisp side of properly cooked bacon tonally, the folk music is wonderfully melodic and free flowing. Della Manley is the daughter-in-law to the late ex-prime Minister Honorable Michael Manley (no relation to David, Luke, or the famous Harley Davidson riding EveAnna Manley). Della has a wonderful voice which glistens within the fabric of this ever elegant and airy music. Joined by musicians such as Michael Fletcher on fretless bass, Peter Ashbourne on violin and none other than the famous Monty Alexander on piano, this CD is sure to allow you to lose yourself within this mellow music. This album is a multi-track recording using various studio effects and processing. While not minimally mic'ed, the music is what shines through brightly here. i can not stress enough how enjoyable this album is each time it is placed into my CD player. This is precisely why out of the many CDs that arive here each month this one appears here. When you are in a more mellow mood and looking for something with a bit more life than those minimally mic'ed chick singer and piano duets (or trio) recordings, Della Manley's .....ashes on the window sill would be among my first choices.
