Dafni Few, if any, singer-songwriters have pursued a doctorate in organic chemistry. Dafni is also in another minority -- a Los Angeles resident who doesn't drive a car. Her music is equally individualistic. Jazz inflections combined with roots simplicity make for eleven quirky and unique tunes. Dafni's vocals also have a charming lack of artifice that compliments her songs home-grown flavor. Enjoyment: Sound:
Justin Jones Justin Jones wrote his first song when he was 13, about his dog. Now at age 30, after several twists and turns, he's returned to his muse. The five songs on Jones' first CD were all recorded live in the studio and the stripped-down arrangements permit Jones' voice and songs to carry the day. I'm looking forward to more. Neil Haverstick Neil Haverstick has been exploring microtonal music for more than seventeen years. Fretless Stickman is a compilation that includes eight of his fretless guitar compositions culled from his previous CDs. Some are acoustic pieces, such as "Mars Mama," while others are more electric, such as "Silver Woman," a 13-minute romp that goes from mellow to savage in a heartbeat. Enjoyment: Sound:
