You can stream your fave tunes in 24-bit/96kHz for only $35!

Chromecast Audio

This month we're obviously focusing on computer devices within our Lifestyle & Design section. You'll also notice we're keeping the prices far below our usual fare. The new Chromecast Audio ($35) device handles 24-bit/96kHz audio to wirelessly stream your music from a computer, tablet or phone to an audio system. Chromecast Audio works with Android mobile devices and tablets, iPhones and iPads, Windows and Mac laptops, and of course the Chromebook Pixel. Streaming music made easy as you tap the Cast button from your favorite mobile music apps to instantly start sending the music through your speakers. Chromecast Audio controls the volume output, play, pause, queue songs and turn up the volume anywhere in the house.

Are you throwing a house party? Others can link into your Wi-Fi and join in on the casting party. You can also group all of your Chromecast Audio connected household speakers together and even letting your friends and family cast their music using their own devices. Seamless integration means you can easily answer a call or text while casting.

Chromecast Audio supports analog output including RCA and 3.5mm plus there's TosLink optical if you want to use an external DAC or your audio system has optical input. Once connected you can enjoy over 30 million songs from music services like Pandora, Google Play Music, Spotify, iHeartRadio and Rdio plus Google is constantly adding new apps and services.

So how easy is it to use a Chromecast Audio device? Plug the Chromecast Audio unit into your speaker, DAC or audio system using the appropriate cable. Then connect the USB power cable to your Chromecast Audio and plug the other end into a power outlet using the included power supply. Then you simply setup your device for Chromecast Audio via the app and both units are on the same Wi-Fi network ( Wi-Fi 802.11ac 2.4GHz / 5Ghz supported). Follow the simple Chromecast Audio app setup instructions and you're good to go.

Ok, we're not saying Chromecast Audio will wirelessly deliver ultra super-fi sound quality, yet it can handle digital audio up to 24-bit/96kHz and you may use a high-end audio external DAC that has TosLink optical input. For $35 this is a very inexpensive and easy way to add the ability to stream your music plus with party mode you can allow others to join the party.
