September 2018 AVM Audio AVM-A30 Integrated Amplifier With
24-bit / 192kHz DAC
Sometimes there is nothing worse than a nice Swiss Army knife says Enjoy the Music.com reviewer Todd Warnke. Just good enough to be useful, but never excellent enough to do the job right. Many of the all in one, integrated amp + DAC combos filling the audio market suffer this same, Swiss Army fate. Not so the A30 from AVM Audio.
Sure, the AVM A30 has the full range of Swiss Army knife features. With three different types of digital inputs and two digital outputs, six analog inputs plus an XLR input, and three analog outputs (Line, Sub and Pre), you can mix and match DAC, Pre and Power stages to your hearts content. And each individual section offers superb sound. But it is as a complete unit that the A30 steps out of the pack and reaches its full potential.
"The sound is clear and fast, but harmonically vivid," said Todd Warnke. "Bass is deep, tight and tuneful. The stage is solid, both in terms of the images themselves and in the way they anchor themselves to the stage. As you move down the audiophile checklist, the A30 hits each mark. But it is the overall, musical balance that makes the A30 in a winner. During the review, I found myself repeatedly and consistently drawn away from other tasks and almost forced to sit in front of the system to listen to and enjoy music. And after the review I missed the A30 so much that I bought one. From a dealer. For full price. It’s that great!"
