1982 Buick Regal
Here's proof ya don't need to have the newest car on the block to have a
great sound system! This '82 Buick is loaded with custom enclosures,
high-quality components, and it all looks phat in the process. Gary Biggs, the owner of
this car, has put many hours into one great looking and sounding car.
Five Kicker XS100 Amplifiers
In the trunk we have lottsa goodies. Starting with the five Kicker XS100
competition amplifiers, this gives his system the power and high sound quality. These babies are
high current and rated at 50W x 2. Yet give 'em a 1/2 Ohm load and they'll push 800
Watts!
Rear Trunk View
They say a picture speaks a thousand words. Just look at this stuff!!!!
Gary chose to have four Rane ME30b thirty band 1/3 octave equalizers in his competition
car. The two on the right are for sound quality. The top left unit is for RTA and the left
bottom unit is for SPL. An equalizer for all occasions! Also seen here are his two Sony ES
C-1 ten disc changers (2 qty). To the center is his VCR so you can watch videos. The board that
surrounds all this equipment had to be carefully constructed. According to Gary, the truck's
inside compartment was higher by half an inch on the left than on the right. This made his creativity
even harder to hide that extra inch of space. Judging from what i saw, he did
it was a great job!
12" Kicker
Solobaric
Seen here is the top of the glove box, where below is the only
woofer in this Regal. One Kicker 12" Solobaric mounted in front of the passenger's
feet gives you all the bass you'll hear from this car. The advantage of using this speaker
is that it can be mounted in a small space, yet handle a peak of 600 Watts.
Only one
of these woofers can keep up with the rest of his music reproduction system it
seems. Gary went for
high sound quality and not for the typical 'boom car'. After hearing his system it sounded
very
good.
JBL 504GTi Coax
Mounted in the front kick panels are JBL 504GTi coax speakers in a custom
made enclosure. These speakers use high power neodymium magnets on both the woofer and the
tweeter. What is really cool is that you can bi-wire these speakers for high-quality sound
unlike other standard coax units. The quality of Biggs' complete system was so good that
he received third place at this show! Congratulations Gary! This is proof that you not
only don't need a brand new car, you also don't need to have lottsa speakers to do it.
