The number O1C was the very first Ferrari. The plans of the very first Ferrari were
submitted to Gilco in Milan along with an order for two frames June 5, 1946 (later stamped
01C and 02C). The history books have had some conflicting information as to the very first
Ferrari, 01C. Recently an old Ferrari was in for service. While there a mechanic
accidentally popped off a piece of lead which, to his astonishment, hid the numbers 01C...
the very first Ferrari chassis ever made!
01C as seen in 1947 with Enzo behind the wheel.
As time went on the first Ferrari, 01C was renamed. The history books get kinda gray
here, and there will probably always be some disputes. My feelings and research indicate
the below picture hold the chassis of the real first Ferrari as seen today.
Spyder Corsa (s/n 010I)
The above is officially called the Spyder Corsa though my feelings from all the new
information seems to show us the chassis is from the very first Ferrari ever built! Over
the years a simple man named Enzo Ferrari brought to the world his dreams and loves in
life. For all of Enzo's efforts i am truly humbled. Enzo once said "La Ferrari is the
living expression of my dreams. A car is a rather beautiful and fascinating thing. It is
because of that, and because there is no perfection but evolution, that I continue my
dream." Cars, like music reproduction, are ever evolving. Perfection may not be
achievable today, though it evolves and progresses. Long live Ferrari's dreams!
And the winners are:
As history shows itself we have two, yes, two lucky winners. i won't
say who actually e-mailed me the first winning entry but let's just say they were very
close in timing. Therefor i feel it only right to have two winners. Stuart
Williams and Iain A F Fleming are officially the winners here.
Congratulations to the both of you! Ahhhhhh Ferrari... and it all began with this car!
