Editor's Lead In
Dear reader, this will be my last Editor's Lead-in, as I have retired from full-time employment and therefore stepped down from my position as being editor of Australian Hi-Fi Magazine, one that I have held for almost 45 years. I am enormously pleased to be able to say that the magazine will be in very capable hands, as the new editor is none other than Becky Roberts, a long-time audiophile and a very experienced hi-fi journalist who has been writing news stories, articles and equipment reviews for the UK's What Hi-Fi Magazine for almost nine years, during which time she attained the position of Hi-Fi and Audio editor. Her recent move from the UK to take up residence in Australia was an example of her perfect timing, as well as an extraordinary demonstration of the principle of serendipity. I wish her all the very best! Becky will be ably assisted by none other than Harry Domanski, who showed me the ropes when Future Australia took over as the publisher of Australian Hi-Fi, and has been writing audio reviews for Tech Radar and other Future titles for many years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank, first and foremost, all the readers of Australian Hi-Fi Magazine, in both its printed form and, more recently, in its various electronic versions because, quite simply, without your support, this magazine would not exist. Thanks entirely to your support, Australian Hi-Fi, (or Aussie Hi-Fi, as our rusted on readers prefer to call it) is one of the world's top three English-language hi-fi publications.
I would also like to thank all those in the hi-fi industry who have supported the magazine, both via advertising, and by willingly supplying equipment for review and bearing all the costs of delivering it to us, picking it up afterwards, and then having bear the financial losses associated with having to sell what is a technically 'second-hand' component, even though it might only have had several months of use. During my 45 years of working at Australian Hi-Fi I have been fortunate enough to be constantly surrounded by colleagues who have made my job easier and, more importantly, a whole lot of fun. Many have become personal friends, whose continued friendship I shall cherish. There are far too many to mention, though I do need to thank the magazine's founder, Gary Cutler, for taking on a person whose only qualifications were being a singer, part-time rhythm guitarist and occasional keyboard player in a rock n' roll band (Transit), having published some short fiction and a not-quite-completed qualification in electronics. Despite ceasing full-time employment, I will continue to write reviews and articles for Australian Hi-Fi on a freelance basis, so my name will continue to appear in the magazine fairly regularly... that is unless I really do manage to qualify for the Australian Seniors Golf Tour, in which case it really will be a case of good-bye!
