Florida Audio Expo 2020 Show
Report
Wynn Audio At FLAX 2020
Wynn Audio was at the Florida Audio Expo 2020 with a wide variety of glorious, and truly beautiful, gear! Starting at the top and working down the rack, Thales Slim II turntable ($6750) with Thales Simplicity II tonearm ($9450) were joined by the glorious EMT HSD 006 photo cartridge ($1760). The cartridge is a lovely red moving coil (MC) with aluminum cantilever, nickel-plated AlNiCo magnet, and a frequency response from 20Hz to 25kHz. Going classic, the EMT STX 5/10 silver wired step-up transformer ($9280) made its first appearance at a USA event; as it provides 14 and 20 dB of gain. That fed a Karan Acoustics PH1 phonostage ($14,000).
For amplification and digital audio duties, Metronome's DSS Streamer ($4300) is a new unit that easily handles every type of Hi-Res Music file you can throw at it. There's also an entry-level Metronome Le DAC ($7000) too. Double DACs! These were mated with Karan Acoustics' KAL MK3 stereo preamplifier ($10,800) and Karan Acoustics KAS 400 stereo power amplifier ($16,900). Speaker were the Kiso Acoustic HB-N1 two-way standmounters ($9500, not including stands). Tweaks included Entreq's Olympus Infinity Ground Box ($3600), with all cables being from the highly celebrated Crystal Cable (Future Dream series).
My listening notes from the Wynn Audio room at Florida Audio Expo 2020 says the music's imaging was excellent! The sound beautifully filled the listening room from a black background. While bass limited, the midbass on up was transparent, fast, and clean. Kiso Acoustic speaker's wood finish is truly a thing of beauty! In hindsight, something special was happening in this room as used the word beautiful more than once, so that says it all. Will say it once again... Beautiful!
