CanJam Singapore 2019 Show Report By Kok Chieat Wong

RAAL-Requisite
SR1a claimed to be the world's first true ribbon nearfield monitor headphone; it is the resultant product from the collaboration of two companies. RAAL is experienced in making true ribbon drivers and custom speakers while requisite has been making their own mastering equipment from mics, studio monitors preamps and compressors for long.

The package comes with an amp interface, to be placed between the SR1a and the amplifier. The loudspeaker cables from your stereo amplifier connect to the back of the box while the SR1a connects to the front of the box. This is to achieve a 5.6 ohm resistance required to drive the SR1a effectively.

The SR1a really reminded me a lot about the AKG K1000, both utilizing similar concept in design, I wondered if they sounded the same?

Stealth Sonics
Another Singapore company with experience in hearing-aid products venturing into IEMs, they have been fast in gaining endorsements from the professionals and musicians around the globe. Seen here are their complete universal IEMs line-up, U2, U4 and U9. Their custom models are using the same driver configurations as their universal models, and named C2, C4 and C9 respectively. As a U4 user, I have sent in my pair to be made into C4 during the exhibition. Can't wait to get them back!

MASS-Kobo
MASS-Kobo makes sound equipment for broadcasting stations, professional musicians and recording studios. When I saw the products, one idea came to my mind, is the FM Acoustics in head-fi audio? You could beg to differ but the products felt industrial and only include the bare minimal, any excessiveness is removed. And they have the price tags to match, too. If you were to buy the model 406, the fully balanced headphones amplifier, Masuda-san, the designer, will personally hand-deliver the product to you! That shows seriousness and respect to their products and also to the future owner-to-be.

With an additional JPY ¥700,000 on top of the model 406 price, you will get the special edition front panel with hand engraved flying dragon by Mr. So Maruyama. All MASS-Kobo products are handcrafted by Mr. Masanori Masuda himself and made to order. Rest assured that whichever products you buy, they are all limited edition, and nothing is mass produced.

R.A.D Rosson Audio Design
Yes, you guessed it right. It is Alexander Rosson from the Audeze fame. Rosson is out on his own and this is his first product, RAD-0. It is an open-back planar magnetic headphone that allows one to customize the enclosure and finishing.

Met up with Rosson the man himself, so cool.

And this wraps up my report for CanJam SG 2019, I seriously can't wait for the next one. The show has been growing and garnering more and more crowd. Jude and Ethan have done a great job once again. Till next year!
