CES Implements New Bag Restrictions, Enhanced Security Measures
New Procedures Include Bag Checks, Body Screening and Increased Security Personnel

Following recent global tragedies, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), formerly the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and owner and producer of CES, is implementing enhanced security measures surrounding the upcoming CES 2016 to produce a safer event. While there are no known, credible threats against CES, CTA is augmenting its standard security procedures as a precautionary measure. Returning to Las Vegas, January 6th through 9th, CES 2016 is the world's gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technology, and will feature more than 3600 exhibiting companies.

"We want a safe CES. The safety of our guests is a top priority," said Gary Shapiro, President and CEO of CTA. "Our goal is for all of our guests – general attendees, exhibitors and members of the media— along with show personnel, to have a productive, fun and safe experience at CES while being sensitive to lines and inconvenience."

The enhanced measures include:

Bag Restrictions
• Luggage may not be brought into official CES exhibit and conference areas. This means no suitcases at the venues.

• Bag check availability at show venues will be extremely limited. Please keep this in mind if you are bringing your luggage to the show. Please allow extra time for checking and retrieving your luggage.

• Sorry, no rolling bags of any size. This includes luggage, carry-ons, laptop and computer bags, and rolling luggage carts.

• Only two bags, each smaller than 12" x 17" x 6", may be brought into official show premises. CES exhibitors and credentialed members of the press may receive specific exceptions.

• Bags will be searched. We suggest you use clear bags (mesh, plastic, vinyl, etc.) to expedite this process.

• Bags and backpacks with many pockets are not helpful. Pockets slow search times.
Body Screening

• Everyone will be subject to metal detector screening and body pat downs upon entering show premises. CTA will conduct searches at specific points to ensure quick and easy access to exhibit halls and reduce the number of times you have to go through security.

• Heavy or bulky clothing is not helpful. It slows the screening process.
Enhanced Security Personnel

• Expect more security and law enforcement personnel both inside and outside of show properties.

• As precautionary measures only, you will see police officers in armored gear, and explosive detection dogs throughout various CES facilities.
Registration and Identification

• All attendees must have an official CES badge and government-issued photo ID before entering CES show venues. Keep both on hand as you enter official show venues.

• Pre-registering online and picking up your badge at the airport or hotel is strongly encouraged.

"While we know of no credible threat against CES, we remain vigilant. We are communicating with the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI and local law enforcement officials as we enhance security measures onsite at CES 2016," noted Shapiro. "We greatly appreciate our guests' patience as we work to maximize security and minimize hassle. We want our attendees to conduct business and enjoy the magic and wonder of the next generation of technology innovation in a safe and secure environment."
